4 new basement windows! The last 70yo single pane beast was beaten out with a sledge hammer this morning and the new one has been installed and sealed. I now have basement ventilation when I want it and less heat loss when I want that!

By the time next winter comes along I expect to have my 2nd floor sealed down to the floor boards and I'll finish off sealing the ground floor also. The basement will lag, and I wasn't planning on tackling it until I had the living areas finished, but I couldn't blame the really cold floors on anything other than the windows. Good idea on the radon. I don't think it's an issue here, but tests are cheap.

I've got several that need replacing and I've been dreading doing it. What brand did you go with?
Consider storm windows, even if temporary. The ROI on windows is often low when compared to sealing leaks and adding a basic storm window.

Be careful of lead paint when smashing out old windows. I've worked on many house where the only lead paint found was on the window sashes.
