No pictures but most walnuts I've tangled with have a lot of branches higher up the tree that are a bear to cut.

Been some cl adds here in the same vein. I just ignore them now as I know they are not worth squat until down and milled. Heck Walnut isn't even that high on the btu chart . For what a lot of these adds are asking price wise I can buy csd oak at half or less per cord and I do not have all the extra work, expense or time invested. Eventually they will get educated.
Recently there was one where the person wanted a 2 acre lot totally cleaned including stumps and all brush ground and it would only cost you 2 grand, and you had to be insured as well. Ya right.

Hey, he added a photograph. It's not even a big walnut, the trunk is curved and it's leaning over a fence. Better get there first!

people are absolutely screwy sometimes.....
Gee, two grand and the buyer gets to do all the work, just.for a couple cord of firewood. Should email or call that guy and tell him to go ahead and plant some flowers around that tree, it ain't going nowhere for that price! He'd have to pay ME at least a couple hundred to come and get that wood......

You guys are missing what he is trying to sell someone on. He is not thinking someone will pay that and cut it into firewood. He is hopeing that a "sawmill" guy or someone who wants the wood for boards or things like that will pay him for it! But his price is almost a finished product price!! And i saw that picture, that tree is smaller than i thought it would be!! It will yield some lumber but not enough for someone to even pay 25% of his price to cut and move it, esp after you figure the costs to get it to the lumber stage.

no, I get what the guy is trying to do just fine.....and no lumber guy on the planet is EVER gonna pay that money for that tree......period.

The poster is trying to get a tree removed for free, and then trying to sell the log to the guy who did all the work. Its asinine.

Yep, no commercial mill will take yard trees. And if it isn't a full semi load same thing. Maybe a local person with a portable, but the advertiser would be paying the miller not the other way around. Got asked about getting a Box Elder out, in corner of 2 yards wood fence and a shed and power lines, and zero heavy equipment access. Politely declined, $500 just in rental costs for a lift that I could maybe get back there, oh and I forgot There is a in ground pool not more than 20 ft away also. Told the Gal to pray to mother nature to knock it down, then call Ins co., best option.

I was at least expecting to see some decent sized trees. Not much in the way of lumber for those twigs.

I am in the wood biz. I am a forester. i dont deal with grade HW but i realize that no one will buy yard trees. But i think this guy wants a woodmizer mill sucker guy to think there gold or something??

I am not saying those trees have value. To the Owner of them on CL i say they have zero value or negative value if they "have" to come down.

I get that question all the time about how much are my 12 "big" pine trees worth in my yard. I tell them all the time...nothing. You will be lucky if you can give them away to someone and that is only if they can drop them in place with no risk to lines structures or your house.

Mills around here will take the trees if there from a yard, you dont tell them there yard trees, they will run through a metal detector and kick it out, if you bring in junk you get cut off or they send them back with you in the case of a small mill.

For the most part yard trees and saw blades don't play nice together. Yard trees are the equivalent of reclaimed lumber. Ya got a 50/50 chance of finding a blade eating piece of something. Kinda depends on your relationship with Murphy. ( Murph's real good at first cuts on the last blade available) Concrete patches, rocks in a crotch do not show up with a metal detectors. Considering my business I see the aftermath on a regular basis.
