It was the other half of this sucker. Don't know why I did it. I knew that the thing was going to launch when I put it in the splitter. Just like an idiot I loaded the knot in place and stood behind the splitter to give this thing all the room I could give it, then I kind of ducked and hit the lever. One half stayed on the splitter the other half might have landed in Indiana. I have got to quit trying to split these things and start noodling.

Was that a standing dead Oak ? I can just here the splitter grunting :)

It's an odd compulsion to have, isn't it? Any day that I don't end up on Tosh .0 is a good day...
LOL. What? How would it end up on Tosh.O? Unless of course you are constantly shooting "how to" videos of yourself while running the splitter?

I generally cease and desist any activity when I see a cell phone camera in operation!:) It just can't possibly end well.

Ha ha ha! Here, take THIS you, you , you SPLITTER!!

I personally LOVE splitting pieces like that.....for several reasons. Main reason is I use to bust my AZZ trying to split that crap with the maul, only to be frustrated and in some cases even pitch it to the side for campfires eventually...with hydraulics, you get to show that POS who's boss!::-)

Second, I love the "POP" or "CRUUUNCH" that those pieces make in the splitter...I did some totally unbelievable knotted and knarly pieces from the two huge beech trees I got this spring. There were rounds from those trees that almost defied physics.....I'm totally serious. I had several of them actually crack, pop, splinter and even rotated almost 180 degrees while splitting them!!

No way would I be noodling those things. That is why you have the splitter. Let do the work. You already know what can happen but it does not happen often. In addition, if you are splitting horizontally, you should change to vertical. That way you will not be beside the split but rather behind it. Let the sucker fly! It won't get you unless you were to put part of your body beside the split. In that case, you should be sitting on the porch contemplating the right way to handle this situation!

Rip that sh** up stringy fire starters ==c

Not one you want to be sitting on the milk crate splitting vertically. <>

Nope. Not a problem. I'll sit and split those any time.

To each their own. Ten or twelve years ago I was in my usual position sitting on my stool/round when one popped and caught my right knee on it's way out. Walked funny and painfully for days. Then on another day, the splitter loaded up on one and I stood up and moved to the side. When that thing popped it knocked the stool/round five feet backwards. Had I been sitting there in my normal knees apart position it would have been a voice changing experience.

I am all original parts so far and want to keep it that way as long as I can.
