I have used an old VC Dutchwest Sequoia for the last twenty years. I rebuilt it a few years ago. It has
kept us warm for many years, and is still in good working order. 2000 sqft home, ranch style. Stove sits just inside the fireplace.

Reading on the site, it looks like a lot of folks are using the Blaze King. I contacted a dealer not far from me and
received two recommendations. quotes. 1. A Jotul F500 for $4275.00 and 2. a Blaze King Princess insert for $4325. Asking for a breakdown of the quote the labor charge turned out to be $1650.

The price difference between the Jotul and the Blaze King was only $50.00 The Jotul $2625. The Blaze King $2675.

Do these prices seem in the ballpark that most folks are experiencing?

$1,650 is an absurd amount of money for an installation that doesn't include a liner. If you have 3 friends to help you move it, then you should be able to hook it up yourself.
 
That sounds like a decent deal on the BK. They are built on the west coast so shipping costs hits us here in the east a little harder.

I agree that the install price, without liner, sounds excessive from what we know.

How old is your liner and what size?
 
Sounds like dead retail on either stove. The install price is really high if no materials needed. I'd shop around, you can probably do better. We sell the Oslo matte black for 2299 (MSRP 2559) looks like they might be getting some freight price too... Good luck. Both are great choices and solid heaters.
 
Thanks everyone for your feedback. I'm not desperate to switch out my VC stove. It still works fine....at least it did last session. Haven't
fired it up this year yet. Just considering options at this point. I will continue my research.
 
I bought a Jotul F500 last year in Asheville NC for $2,500. Picked it up myself.
They were asking $2,800 and I talked them down 300 bucks.
 
I bought a Buck 94...and Buck Stoves are made in Spruce Pine, NC. I am pretty happy with it. Just another thought for you.

The Jotul is a pretty stove,the BK not so but a workhorse,prices seem high on both at least for my area.
 
I'm about ready to order a liner kit for 500 with insulation, and do it myself in a few weeks. You can get 15 foot kits without insulation for 300 ish. The hardest part for me will probably be grinding the old damper a bit to fit the 6 inch liner through a 5 inch gap, or fabricating a block off plate. Just order a kit like me, and dedicate a day or two, if that and save a ton of money. There's even YouTube step by step videos, and you've got great help right here.
