We just bought a new Quadra-Fire 7100. From my understanding it has been on the market for over 10 years. Has there been any updates, fixes, or new features added over the years.

The 7100 is a beast and gets very good reviews on here. For a lot of ppl a zc fp that size would be overkill for their room, but it really is a gorgeous unit.

I'm not sure about any updates, but if there were any - they would have also been applied to the Northstar and Constitution which are identical to the 7100, but smaller in size.

Please let us know how you like and take some pictures please!

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the reply. I will surely take some pictures. We kind of broke up the project into two steps as our money is tight. For now it will just sit in our family room until next spring when can buy some stone for the fireplace. I have just installed some lights that will go above the mantel. We will also be buying a shelf mantel in the next few weeks. I will probably put some lathe mesh and mortar on the fireplace surround in a month or so to prep for the next step.

Hopefully 7100 is not too big for my place. Our house is about 2400 sqft with a 17 foot ceiling in the living room. Most of the house is open, so air flow should be good except to the back bedroom. I paid $5600 after taxes. This included all the chimney parts, pipes, mission hill front, and the installation. Hope this was within the normal price range.

Thanks for posting this. Makes me feel better about what we are paying for our new fireplace. Similar square footage, high ceiling in living room and master bedroom that won't be in the natural convection circulation pattern.

Not really, and we are getting a PE FP30, just comparing similar packages and installation rates.

We have not used our fireplace as of yet. Qaudrafire 7100 puts out 92,000 BTU and the your unit, FP30 puts out 99,000 BTU. Curious if this is overkill. My installer said I would have to keep my blower on the lowest setting as it would uncomfortably warm in the room with the fireplace. I must note, I live in Northern AL and rarely do we see temps below 5 degrees. Last year's winter was usually warm as the lowest temp was only 16 degrees. Generally our lows stays in the low 30's for the month of January and February with a couple dips in the single digits.

If your goal is to heat your home solely with the 7100 based upon your location, I believe you've got a good combination.
You'll get a better idea after a couple years of getting used to dialing it in.
I don't know where you would put a thermometer but we also use a humidifier in the room to balance things out through the winter.
even though our 5100i ACT is rated for another 100 square. ft. more than the 7100, I've found it has barely enough oomph during frigid 5-10 degree mornings to sustain comfort level temps desired for our square footage which is quite large in comparison, so I'd say yours will work just fine based upon your climate zone, square footage and ceiling height.

As far as 7100 changes over the years, I know the ACC feature is maybe 6 years old now. I think your 7100 fireplace has that feature.
ACC replaced ACT. which is the manual version of the same feature regarding secondary burn cycling.
ACT was introduced a very long time ago, I want to say 1990's? but doesn't matter now.

Thank you for the reply. I tend to get bloody noses when the weather is cold and dry. What or brand humidifier do you have?

I thought the 7100 was rated higher (BTU's) then the 5100. When rating the efficiency of fireplace, I thought the BTU output was a better number to compare with than the square feet the manufacture lists.

After lots of research I chose to go with the Winix AW107 humidifier. There is usually around 3 gallons of water per day needed to keep it happy. This really helps with burning eyes and sore mucus membranes but especially helpful to keep static electricity lower.
There's nothing like being zapped when reaching for a light switch or the woodstove handle!

Rating metioned were for square footage, However with that in mind, Yes, BTU ratings are fundamental in which appliance to consider as a purchase but these are two different classes of appliances. According to Quadrafire, The 7100 fireplace is rated up to 3000 sq. ft. and is listed as a "fireplace", whereas the 5100i ACT states up to 3100 sq. ft. and is listed as an fireplace "insert".
I'm a woodstove guy so this was Not my first choice but it fits the hole in the wall.

Thanks for the tip on the humidifier. Not sure which of the two, heating sqft range or BTU would be the best guide to buy a stove\fireplace. I guess one could also add in additional factors such as the material used, design, and size of the firebox. What sold me on the 7100 was the burn time. In my old unit, the wood would only keep the fire burning for 6 hours. Either I had to wake up in the middle of the night to add more wood or restart it in the morning. The Quadrafire 7100, depending the type of wood, climate, or setting will have a burn time of 16 hours.

I don't think you have to worry too much about BTU's as you're on the right track already based upon your climate zone and square footage you need to heat as you're comparing large fireboxes anyway.
