I am the original owner of a Vermont Castings 1977 Vigilant wood stove. For many years it was my sole source of heat but is now used in conjunction with other heat sources. It has been trouble free until the last 2-3 years when the small rod on the right side of the damper sometimes pops out of a bracket about 5 in. long and 1 in. wide, clearly stamped with p/n 4148. There's no room to reach behind it to place a nut on the one screw that's holding it in place. I just removed the bracket completely and it seems OK for now. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
