I have an MTD 20 ton log splitter that was purchased new in the mid 90's. It was used yearly until this cutting season when I replaced it with a new one. The hydraulic system and frame is in good pretty good shape but it needs a motor or to have the current one rebuilt. I have someone interested in buying it, but I don't have a clue as to what it is worth. Any ideas as to a fair value are appreciated.

I'd guess 250-300 at the most. If you put a motor on it and got it running I'd say around 500.

If someone else is going to put the work into it and take a chance on it they want a deal.

I'd guess it's worth what the buyer is willing to pay, within reason. Seems to me 90% of people on Craigslist truly believe their stuff is more valuable because it's THEIRS. I always have good luck selling on Craigslist because I'm the type who wants to get rid of stuff, not make top dollar.

I woild start with the price of a new splitter, take off the price of a new engine and get a number.

Then i would subtract the pita factor for intalling the engine and list what you got on CL at that price.

If I had a cash offer a couple hundred under that ask I would probably take it.
 
250.00 or you can continue to look at it get older as the weeks go by waiting on a sucker to over pay you for it.

It's used. Needs a motor. Who knows how long the hoses and seals will stand up.

Rebuilding a cheapo MTD motor is pointless when you can go get a new one for $150 at harbor freight. Go get one of their engines, get it running well and sell it for $500 in the Fall.
Summer is the wrong time to sell a splitter.

Thanks for all the replies. I was thinking $200 range prior to posting so I guess I was in the ball park.
