It's not quite cool yet here in the land of taxes, but I have been jonesing to fire up my Francesca with her newly installed outside air system. I didn't want any unlikely suprise when it's truly time to put it in service. A short run this mildly chilly morning proved successful. The bright bold yellow flame looked truly oxygen enriched. Seems also the stove was slightly more quiet not pulling directly from the back of the stove. Probably my wishful imagination since the outside intake tube is so small on these stoves. This small stove is a perfect fit for our dining room and is a wonderful compliment to our Jotul #3 in the adjacent and connecting family room. The #3 is the work horse going through 3-4 cord a winter. About 1 ton+ on the pellets. Between the 2 stoves its a lot of work, but have been burning 35 years and the wife wouldn't hear of not having visible flame and high heat. Would also hear it from the dog and cats. So much for Manly :)

Glad all is well ... just not wanting to think of heating yet. So behind on everything this year;em

It is still early. I had to winterize early this year due to scheduled knee surgery (replacement) this coming Wednesday. I will have limited mobility for a few weeks or so. The Pelican pellet storage bin is full, the wood rack is full and everything set for the little lady if needed. Have you ever seen the Pelican storage bin? They are quite a nice looking and useful piece, especially for smaller stoves.

Forecast of mid 60's for high next week. We already had a couple days this month that did not get to 65 and started in the 40's. Fired up the infloor system in the basement to dry things down on those days. Never used the AC this month and that is a first since in moved here in 2003. With refined oil prices going up everyday the multifuel stoves will again pay.

The mess that is Harvey will have oil and gas prices up again for both US & Canada:(
It's good to have a house to heat!
Counting my blessings. Many of those people have no flood insurance because they live in areas that don't normally flood. That is a whole bunch of stress making payments on a home that is underwater, losing work, rebuilding a house that will be full of mold in a week.
I wonder how many will default and just walk away.

I can't even imagine.

I got home Tuesday late afternoon from my day job and it was a cool 66* in the house. Was 63* outside (the high all day was 65). Figured it would only get colder so started the main floor stove and set the thermostat at 68*. Got home from my night job to a decent temp in the house. Stove fired up at least once more - at 3AM it woke me up (that's okay, I get up at 3:30 anyway). Turned off the thermostat before leaving for work as it was forecast to be warmer and has been off since.

Woman, when do you sleep??
10 pm until 3:30. Unless I have a day off and then I usually sleep until 4 or 4:30. I do usually take a 20 minute nap at lunch time though :)
