so what you're looking at here is the inside top of my firebox for my old wood bring stove. i want to run a freestanding stove pipe into that. seems like i have to do some modifications to my existing chimney pipe to make a safe connection to the stove?
thanks!

can anyone help with this? it looks like i might have to cut the chimney pipe from above the existing connection to the fireplace to make a safe connection to a free standing wood stove.

You will need an insulated liner what you have is a Zero clearance fireplace and their chimneys are not rated to take the temps required for a wood stove.

There’s no safe way to hook into that chimney. You need to run an insulated 6” stainless liner through the existing chimney.

+1

Use your old ZC chimney as a chase and run SS insulated pipe from your stove to the top of the chimney, with proper termination at the top.

Thanks so much guys, appreciate it.
Am I going to have to get a liner kit with a new chimney cap included to install, or can I use my old one? I probably need a new one.

Most often parts of you current cap will need to be used along with a new liner cap, to utilize the air cooling of the chimney pipe.
