I love white pine

I've been burning white pine almost exclusively so far this year, and I have to say I love it!

In the 30's and 40's I can easily heat 2400 sf to the low 70s. And the white pine will go 12-14 hours before reload.

I've even been going overnight with it, as long as it doesn't get into the 20s. It easily lasts overnight.

Seasons quickly, too. Loving it!

I think it's really a combination of the awesome Progress Hybrid, and a well insulated house. Attic is air-sealed with R-60. Finishing up air sealing the basement now.

Well insulated home + cat stove + white pine = good burn

Moderately insulated home + secondary burning stove = white pine = OK burn

Don't get me wrong . . . I'm burning a bunch of white pine this weekend as the temps are in the mid- to high 30s and white pine is perfect for this type of weather and temps, but I don't get as long a burn as you do with that hybrid stove.

Well this is good news. I've never burned white pine but I have about 6 75-100ft white pines that need to come down this winter. I guess this thread answers if I should keep that wood or not. Then again it's really going to be so freakin much to deal with...

It's about half of what I burn. It's raises my 3200sqft house by 3 degrees on these 30-40 degree days. Dries fast and easy to find. People think I am idiot for burning it but I dont want to let the secret out.

trguitar, I thoroughly enjoy burning pine, hemlock and poplar in the PH during the shoulder season. It currently is 35 degrees outside and pine is in the PH. However, we will be going down to the teens overnight and there will be some red oak in the PH ;). The pine definitely seasons quickly and saves me from having to burn my hardwoods.

Also good for a first load when firing up a cold stove. Quick hit then cruise on something denser. Wish I had some, I have nothing in the way of pine, cedar or spruce this year.

Forgot to add it is has a great smell when burned. My favorite.
