Goldilocks venting - holes in the base column

For conventional built homes the base is simply raised from floor 1 inch. The holes in base corners are for 1/2 inch bolts to attach 1 inch chrome balls under base plate or for securing to floor in mobile home installation with through the floor intake. If you think you need more air space under base plate, set the base on bricks on each corner. Atmospheric air pressure pushes in all directions so the square inch area of intake is not restricted raising the base plate 1 inch off floor. Holes in pedestal does not add any more square inch of intake area. It also voids the UL listing since it would draw air from inside a mobile home when installed with outside air intake.

Another means of using inside air in a conventional built home is an air chamber under stove. This was a corrugated (wavy) steel like used on roofing that uses the air passages under pad for intake air. Normally 48 X 48 inches square and was supplied by Dura-Vent complete with brick pad surface. They can be constructed easily with corrugated metal and cement board or a prefab stove pad on top of the metal. Cut the hole in center to match pedestal intake so it gets air around perimeter of stove pad. This was an accessory made by Dura-Vent for Fisher / Century Ind.

You can also open the ash clean out flap to make sure intake air is your problem. That allows indoor air directly into firebox under air control flap. (Bear-O-Matic air control) It is usually a chimney venting issue, not intake.
What are the details of your chimney? It must be 6 inch insulated prefab flue, (10' 6" above stove top and minimum 6 feet of chimney sections.) straight up and should be double wall connector pipe inside. (required in mobile home installation)
