I have the insert, and when the bypass is closed there is a lot of up and down play in the handle. Is this normal? I cannot find anything online about this, and I don’t hear a “click” that some guys are talking about. Once the bypas handle is engaged the handle loosely moves up and down a good 2”. My dealer is ABSOLUTELY USLESS as they installed the stove (completely wrong) and I had to have it re-installed at the beginning of this burning season from a stove shop that doesn’t even carry the blaze kings. I wish this company had some type of consumer support outside of the usless dealer.
 
The cable runnin the bypass may need some adjustment. If your a hands on kinda person it’s not too bad.
You’ll need some vise grips, #2 square driver, and a set of metric Allen wrenches. Remove the bypass handle and the thermostat control knob, then remove the shroud. This allows access to the cable system.
 
Take pictures and/or make reference marks so you know how it was assembled originally.
 
I have a question regarding this... I've had my BKP for about a month now and haven't noticed a clicking noise with the bypass. After reading this thread I just went to my stove and put more pressure on the bypass handle and it moved down and "clicked" almost like it was locking it into place....so I may have been burning it this whole time without the bypass completely locked down. I'm wondering if this could've caused any damage other than just a loss of efficiency. Not sure if that extra click even did anything. I've been getting 24 hour burns with the thermostat on low, only see smoke coming out of my chimney right after a reload, and as far as heat goes the needle will be completely pegged in the active zone if I run it on high (just after a reload) and then drops down to about 12 - 2 o'clock while burning on med

You are good. Perhaps a little loss in efficiency, but that’s all.

To be 100% certain have a look inside your chimney to make sure it is not full of creosote. An once of precaution can go a long way. Send us pictures of the inside of the chimney if you are not sure .

Ummm.... I'm glad I stumbled upon this thread. I've had my Princess insert a bit longer, and I've noticed a small amount of flames in the box even on low. I also have a bit of "slack" in the handle after lowering it. I pushed down on the handle a little harder when I reloaded this morning, and got a little click or clunk. No more flames on low, and a lot more wood left in the box when I got home from work. Like you, I hope there is no damage, but I'm guessing it's ok.

I recently had a princess installed, hoping someone could confirm bypass handle positions. Obviously when you turn the handle towards you the bypass is open, turn it way from you and it is closed. If I turn my handle further in the closed position it seems to close completely. Are there three positions or just two? I've only run one 10 hour burn on the stove and it operated as it should.

Open is towards the operator, flopped over but not clicked down is useless. The cat isn’t fully engaged until it clicks/cams over. Keep the bypass gasket clear of debris, I sweep it with my fingers every time I start a fire if it’s cool enough.
 
Thanks, that is what I thought. A little off subject but hoping someone could provide info on refueling. When starting a fire I understand the importance of running the stove wide open and waiting until the stove is in the active zone before closing the bypass. What about refueling when the stove has hot coals but is slightly not active, do I need to do anything different?

Just leave the bypass open until the cats active again.
 
It’s like a “wait to start” light on a diesel. Just wait.
 
I only push down the lever on my BKP until it cams over. If I keep pushing until it clicks, I can see it lift and slightly unseat the bypass door on a cold stove
 
Yes, but most don’t actually say “wait to start”. ;)

A push button ignition on mine. The 6 glow plugs heat so fast that I don't even see the yellow coil light on the dash.
