If you have not cleaned your stove after shutting it down for the summer, then get to work. What? You think you can slack off now that you no longer need heat from your trusty, reliable, faithful pellet stove. Take care of that stove that keeps you toasty warm all winter.

I cleaned my pellet stove inside and out on Saturday 3/12/2018. Last year I was a slacker and did not clean it until October.

I was going to, since we hit 85 here in Michigan. Then, as only Michigan can do we had a string of high 20's nights with rain and grossness. So the stove was put back into service. I think by June I'll be fine.

Still running mine in the mornings to take the chill out and want to burn off that last bag of pellets..

Probly wait.
I plug up the OAK, and exhaust, and put a can of damp rid in it..
No rust. Zero.
First year I had the stove, I cleaned it well, and it rusted up.
If I cleaned it now, I would spray it with WD40 or something similar.
But why bother...

Dan

I cleaned it anticipating summer was here then cold snap rolled in so we ran the stove to warm the house a little. So going to wait until June to clean it again.

cleaned mine this last weekend.
plugged up the OAK, sprayed the burnpot and inner walls with Pam cooking spray[not butter flavored:p,
and put can of damprid in top and one in the bottom... do this every spring and never get any rust..

Hell it is only May ! will probably need it once
or twice before the end of the month
Always clean it the 2nd week of June
Then again have had it on in every month
of the year more than once . The joys of
living in Canada EH

I used to clean mine every May. Now i leave it dirty with the ash coating the inside. Since I have started doing it this way I have not had any moisture or rust inside the unit. I now clean it in Sept.

Same here. I used to clean it and Pam it and still I would get some surface rust. The last few years I leave it dirty, and plug the vent and exhaust. The new thing I will try this summer is to leave the ash bin full - maybe it acts like a moisture sucker.

Need to do one last hot fire in each stove to close the season, to vaporize some of the creo that has the firebrick glued to the firebox, after weeks of running them on low. Then it will be a trip up and down with the sooteater, vacuum, clean the glass, install the dry rods, and close the doors on these fireplaces for the summer. (Yes, my fireplaces have wood doors.)

I have to clean the pipe sometime but other that that, no summer shutdown procedure here. I've had to use mine for frosty nights in July.

personally, it would bother me to leave the stove dirty and full of ash all summer... anti-rust method or not.my luck i would probably get some rust.
i feel better knowing i fully cleaned it and put it too sleep.
but,whatever works for ya'll.keep doin it..>>

Gave the P61a (basement stove) a full cleaning a couple of weeks ago, plugged up the exhaust and used some fogging oil in the ash pan chamber. Have not cleaned the P43 since it is currently running (okay, it is shutting down at this moment). I've had to run it way into June before, so not in a big hurry.

Running it right now...the house was 60 degrees this morning...need to burn up the pellets anyways. Hopefully get to cleaning in the next few weeks...

In the plans for this weekend. I pretty confident we are through burning. Hope to clean the woodstove and pellet on Sunday. Also need to clean the two associated vacuums and filters. It was another successful burning season which ended just 2 weeks ago.

Finally got around to cleaning mine last Saturday. ==c

Took 4 hours, did the vent stack and capped. Took off both fans and cleaned. Cleaned and put slippery stuff in the hopper. Deep cleaned the burn area, greased the burn pot door, plugged the OAK and put a damprid in and closed her up! Noticed my door rope is looking sad. May need to put a new gasket on before fall.

Have a good summer!

It's on my schedule for Sunday, Fathers' Day, followed by quality hammock time. Wood stove has been cleaned for the season. That is much easier that the pellet stove process.

We just got our pellet stove about 1 1/2 months ago. Used it maybe 3 times, only for about 1 hour each time. Do I need to clean much yet? I do have some pellets in the hopper still. Should I scoop those out and put them into a closed plastic tub? I haven't purchased any cleaning supplies yet. What do I need? A super long brush for the pipes, right? Any specific kind? The stove came with a scraper for the burn pot. An ash vac? Any specific brand?

Ha!!!!! I just used my stove again last week....what spring?

what is the burn pot door?

P43 still in use - ran several times at night Monday thru Wednesday of this past week. So it will still be at least another week before I clean it up for the summer.

It's the fire-pot floor plate that slides over when you pull the small handle to empty the contents of the firepot... I usually grease it with some high temp grease...
What model stove?
ok. I see it's an insert...
little more involved than freestanding to clean..
