We were cleaning out the wood stove for past season and notice drywall above mantel bowed out quite a bit, no crack but the curvature is alarming, had a painting on the same spot, one can clearly see noticeable curved gaps on the and bottom of the painting. We have scheduled a sweep with a camera to come check it out along with cleaning. We wonder if the insulation come lose somehow leaked heat from the liner? We were burning hotter than before as the maple, ash, and other hard wood are c/s/s closed to 3 yrs ago.

I have never heard of dry bowing because of heat, moisture yes
After all dry wall is fire stop rated . What is the material your chimney made of ?
Pos . leak at roof on the brick or block ? Not a large leak but enough for the flue
to heat the moisture and turn it into vapor affecting the dry wall

Yes it is fire rated but that only means it will slow the spread of fire for a set amount of time. Heat can make it bow. But i agree moisture is more likely
