My wife thinks I have a problem.

Regarding the master bathroom, she’s probably right, lol. Not to worry, after this initial newfound obsession dulls slightly, it will cool to a hobby/passion that also heats the house. Guaranteed that being toasty warm this coming winter will help her “get it “ more.

In the meantime, try to tend to stuff around the house along with the wood. I find when I get too focused on the wood for too long a time, my wife notices, and calls me on it. When I balance things out better, I get more done overall, including with the wood pile, ironically.

my wife has often told me that we don't need any more wood.... and that I need to go back to finishing projects around the house. I haven't collected wood in a few months, since I still have a big pile of maple and elm that needs splitting...

That being said, it has been around 100º and I want nothing to do with being in the sun by the splitter... and we just put a window in our house, and built a closet for one of the bedrooms last week, so I'm doing ok on both fronts

I dealt with a similar resentment in the first few years, @shortys7777. I found that simply shifting my wood processing time to hours when wifey wasn’t around went a long way toward restoring the marital bliss. Work hard on the master bedroom when she’s home, do your wood processing when she’s at soccer with the kids. She’ll still know you’re burning hours on making firewood, but at least she won’t be reminded of it as often.

You will also (likely) improve your processes, skills, and equipment over time. I can haul home and process a half dozen cords of wood today in less time than I did my first single cord.

Working on the wood is always one of my favorite "chores" . . . I try to make time for the other chores and projects as well though since I cannot very well tell my wife with a straight face that I need to cut, split or stack that 8th cord now instead of waiting a few weeks.

i think i'm up to 10 css, 1 cst (cut split and tossed), and 2 cut and piled. I have learned that as long as I am respectful about getting stuff cleaned up in the front, I can steal a few minutes to get out back. Now that the back is getting a bit more cleared out, the kids don't mind going back to play while I stack wood.

i was talking about a friend who had to take down the beetle kill, and my wife said "are we getting the wood?". Surprisingly, i said "Nope, we have enough "

It pained me to say it, but I still have about 3 cord to split, and I have to replace part of a sewer line. I don't really want to have to move the wood to then move the wood to then replace the sewer line to then move the wood

We went through just over 2 cord last year, so I think i'm a good 5-6 years ahead right now

Mine never complained because she was always cold in the winter. Of course, she's been gone since December and the dissolution will be done tomorrow, I've had plenty of time getting work done around the house, take care of firewood, run, and hunt. Well, I guess you shouldn't listen to me anyway.

Thanks, it is what it is. I tried for three years but it was to no avail, losing half my pension is what hurts the most now. I've gotten over the rest.
