Hi All,

I am considering buying my first pellet stove! I have a ~1400 sq ft ranch in the Albany, NY area that is about 10 years old. I am considering the two following stoves, but would be willing to consider other stoves in the price range:

1. Englander's 55-TRPEP... the only issue I have with this stove is the 45 pound hopper capacity.
2. Englander's 55-TRPAH... less appealing to the eye to me, but with a 120 pound capacity, it seems like a good option.

For both stoves I am looking at getting them factory 2nd from AM FM energy to save some money, so they would both be around $1000-1200.

Am I looking in the right BTU range for these two stoves? Also, are there any other stoves I should consider that are in the same price range?
 
In that range I went with the Castle serenity. Worth a look. I am looking to add a second stove this year, maybe a Pelpro 90. love the way it looks.
 
I like the cast iron look for a pellet stove. Is the Pelpro 90 known to be a reliable stove? The Castle Serenity is something I would consider, but I don't think the 32K BTU Ouput would be enough for me in the dead of winter.
 
I believe the pelpro90 had an issue with the internal thermostat when it was new, but is now possibly fixed. It also allows for a external thermostat that most people were using to bypass the internal issue. I too like the look of it better, and the ability to use the thermostat. Castle does not have a true internal thermostat. It will only turn the stove down to low once the desired temp is reached. If you want it to cycle on and off you have to set the programmer to do so on a schedule. My castle is in a 400sq ft room and it cooks it up to 80 if i let it run. 1400 shouldn't be an issue if your house allows air to move around.
 
I'm also considering pellet stoves and have my eye on the pelpro90. I wish they had more info on the thermostat mode, such as if it's on/off or high/low, and what the wait time is before it turns off after call for heat is satisfied.
