Ghost Ash?

Hi all.

I recently switched my Heatilator Cab50's thermostat (the cheap-o that it came with) for a simple, $50 non-programmable Honeywell T2. It works, but there is very little-to-no "swing" (I think that's the term) where if the temp in the room goes remotely below the selected number, the stove kicks on. Not sure if I can change that.

If anyone has a recommendation for a thermostat that they get more of a swing on (ie: the temp set to 75, doesn't kick on until around 73 or 72) then I am all ears.

Ive come home from work the past 2 days, and I usually go and use my ash vac to pull out the ash from the fire box and surrounding areas. Both days, there has been NONE! I know the things been on, I see ash around the pot, but there is literally NOTHING in it!

Is my stove on too much and it is just disintegrating?

I use one of the Skytech models (can't remember the exact model). I think it has a swing temp of 3 degrees. Look them up, and you will find all the info you need.

So you think your stove is running too much when you are not home? Are you using more pellets than normal? Maybe the pellets you are burning are real clean/low ash

Im thinking that the Honeywell thermostat just kept kicking ruebstove on when the temp in the room went even a fraction below what it was set to. It just disintegrated it and poof! Out the exhaust it went. It only ran a day, which usually produces SOME ash, and there was certainly some around the firepot inside the chamber.

I took the other guy’s recommendation, returned the Honeywell and got a Lux (i attached a pic of it) at Lowes. It’s programmable and was about $75. What was weird was that i found it on the lowes app, said there were 3 in stock, but the store didnt even have a spot for it on the shelves! I finally asked a guy and he said they keep those in a cage behind the service desk. All the honeywells are out on the aisles, but the Lux’s and Nests are in lockup?

Anyway, i sent the differential to 3 degrees and we’ll see how it goesz

Now, i just need Heatilator to replace my whiney convection blower! They sent me an email saying its under warranty but the place i boight it from says the Eco-choice models are only 1 year. Hmm...

Most thermostats if you pull the cover off their is a little pot switch with numbers around it. Turn this switch and you can adjust your difference from .5 to 5 or more. From the factory they are usually set around .5 -1.5

The Lux tstat ingot has a setting for 2 differentials. I think one goes to 3 deg max, and 2.5 the other. The package didnt have directions, so ill have to look up what each setting means.
