so I moved to a house a year ago with a night watch insert with a jammer install. I bought a liner kit and plan to install it in the next week or two. Problem is, I can’t figure out how to remove the surround to clean around the insert. See pics, the bolts in the pic just spun. Anyone know how to remove the surround or does it have to slide out with the entire insert? I installed a Vermont castings insert at our last house and the surround installed AFTER the insert was put in the fireplace. Any help or tips would be appreciated.

Did you pull the bolts out of the faceplate? That would be my guess. But regardless the whole thing will need to come out inorder to properly clean the flue smokechamber smokeshelf etc.
The bolts just spin. Only thing that makes sense to me is that there is a nut on the other side but it just seems bass ackwards that you put the surround on the stove then slide it in to place rather than slide in to place then put the surround on. Maybe I’m overthinking it. But that sucker is pretty solid in there, removing it is going to be a chore

I understand that it’s all going to be coming out of the opening. Rather than all in one peice I was thinking if I could take it apart to help with the weight and if I could get the surround off then I may be able to get more room to get behind it to clean everything out rather than having to pull it even off the hearth.

Drag it out a few inches. Chances are there is a nut on the backside of the screw that is spinning.
From what I have researched I can run a 6” liner with a stove with a 8” collar with a reducer with little to no issue, possible draft. It’s a 15’ chimney. So if I doesn’t work then I’ll take that as a lesson learned and put a newer 6” insert in it
