Blaze King Princess

hello. thanks for adding me as a member.
we are proud new owners of a Blaze King Princess Ultra.
our first fire was Friday, that's how every new we are.

we have no knowledge or experience of our own with Blaze King and are basing our actions on what we can glean from YouTube, forums like this and the Blaze King users manual

we started our first fire per instructions in the User Manual. we fulled the firebox with ~40 lbs of seasoned iron wood and let it burn down to coals before refilling the box.

but the room never seems to get as warm as we'd like it to be (63-65 F); the room is open concept.~2000 sf.
we adjust the 'thermostat' to keep the temperature in the 'active' range. but in order to do that (keep the temperature in the 'active' range) we haven't been able to increase the 'thermostat' past maybe a quarter of the way 'open'.

i know that adjusting the 'thermostat' higher will increase the stove (and thus room) temperature but fear it will result in the stove moving past the 'active' range.

any help would be very much appreciated.

Set the tstat according to your heat demand. If everything is working correctly you will not overfire the stove. That's the function of the tstat. If the probe goes sometimes to the end or over it is ok. Dont adjust the tstat based on that. Find the settings that keeps the desired temps for you.

How many hours did you get out of the load? Can you tell a little about your setup?

we got about just over 24 hours on the first burn (~40 lbs seasoned hard wood). our stove is a blaze king princess ultra, 8" double walled flue. there's 20' from the stove to the roof. the stove heats both the main floor (1000 sq ft) and the loft 750 sq ft ( 250 sq ft is open to above. we're in minnesota. night times were in the 20's over the weekend

The probe is there to let you know when to shut the bypass and when the cat is into inactive range. How far gets into the active zone is not to take into account. It is reading cat temperature not stove temperature. If you need the dial at 3 o'clock to get the heat you need then is 3 o'clock. Be sure the bypass is closed, hear/look for the click sound to be sure it is closed. Once the cat is going into active zone close the bypass and keep burning on high for awhile before adjust the tstat.

That is a whole lot of cubic feet to heat. It is going to be a challenge

thanks again for sharing your expertise. we really appreciate it. this gives us a better understanding of the function of the temperature/active dial. the bypass is definitely closed. we did verify that the bypass is closed. will do as you suggest and burn on high for 20-30 minutes before adjusting the thermostat. so very much appreciated.

I think if you did get 24hrs out of 40 pounds with that kind of temperature outside, you were running real low the stove.

Why is 8" the flue? Or is it a typo?

yes! we were running the stove too low ( have creosote on the window). you are right! not 8"; 6" flue. good catch

You are going to need to run the stove pretty hard to heat that amount of cubic feet. Square footage is one thing 2000 sqft with 8' ceilings would not be a big deal fot that stove. But 10.5' with loft in areas is going to be challenging. I think it will do it if it is insulated well and not to much glass but you will have to run pretty hard.

to be clear, our space is not a single room. its 2 floors, each about 1000 sq ft

each has a ceiling of 10' with 1/4 of the main floor open to above. thank you so much

Yes lots of cubic feet. The princess is rated to heat 1500 to 2500 square feet. But that is with 8' ceilings. So you are on the top end of its capabilities. Like i said i think it will do it but you will have to open it up pretty much.

Don't let it go out! After running 24/7 for 2 or 3 days straight let us know how its working. It may take a bit to get caught up so to speak.
