I bought this saw almost on a dare. 20", 52cc(?), 25:1. $93. My tiny little Husky is having problems I can't figure out.

Starting it is a dream! The starter cable must have some spring gizmo in it, because it's closer to throwing a yo-yo than pulling a starter cable. NO VIBRATION or tugging. Smooth as silk. Pain or injury is impossible. It's a bit of a game to see how slowly you can pull the cord and have it start. Should be a worldwide mandate for pull starters. ;-)

Anyway, I need to get a spare chain or two and it's confusing me. I don't see anything with a familiar name and the specs (to the best of my knowledge) w/o an Asian manufacturing name. Maybe I'm locked in to their brands or specs from now on.

The manual mentions chain type 21VB. Not much comes back from that. I found a reference that a chain superseded 21VB, but it was 72 drive links.

The chain came in a bag that has 20", 76 stamped on it.
I'm sure it's .325 pitch because my 3/16" files fit.
The bag has a chart for .325" that says ES21BP and ES21LP. Not much comes back from those two.

A fairly comprehensive review of the saw called the chain as 20", .325", .058 GA, 76 drive links.

I can't find anything yet that gives me enough confidence to purchase.

The factory chain just seems a little dodgy to me. It cut weird right off the bat and seems to need more touch-up than other chains. My hand filing isn't great but it geds me back in the game.

Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Those are the 3 specs you need for a saw chain: Pitch, Gauge, DL
In Oregon, it's a 21BPX076G. Oregon may have a 21LPX by now.

Thank you. I began to see that number but still couldn't find the confidence to buy it. I contacted Oregon (who got back to me right away) and they confirmed the number. BUT, they don't make a loop.

Found a few YT vids where some guys are making their own chain loops. I might call a hardware or lawn/garden place to see if any of them make loops.

Thank you!!

Ebay has Oregon 21BPX076G and 21LPX076G. I've bought many chains from frawleys. Always been accurate.

Forgive me for being gunshy, but I haven't seen the idiot-proof descriptions I generally like to see to be sure of something.

So if Oregon says they don't make a loop, Ebay (and Frawleys) may have a loop?

Thanks.

Oh wait a minute... Oregon is saying it (the company) doesn't make a loop, but other people do! OK, that makes sense. The pricing/descriptions weren't making any sense w/o that info. Here's their reply.

"The Oregon® chain is 21BPX076G. Oregon® does not make this in a premade loop but you can purchase it through Amazon."

I figured she had to mean a length of chain!! I should give up English and go back to hieroglyphs. ;-)

OK, I'm pulling the trigger on a pair of chains. Sometimes being stupid is funny and I'm OK with that!

I was stuck in a (guess what) "loop". I'd find my way to the first catalog number, figure this must be it, and then go to the Oregon site to confirm and it never, ever came up. So I wouldn't place the order.

Next night I'd start over and get the same results. It's comical now only since I know the answer. ;-)

Don't look start with your chain when looking for replacement information. Look at the info stamped on your bar.

Pitch, gauge, DL

Number of DL is essentially determined by bar geometry and will be stamped on the bar.

You have a not so common bar on that saw in the sense that you're telling us it specifies 76 DL. Common 20" bars in .325 pitch require 78 or 81 DL, and that's what you'll find in the way of pre-made loops in big box stores and online. Not 76 DL chains.

Most chainsaw dealers that service saws (not the big box stores) will make loops for you. Around here, that would be any full service Stihl, Husqvarna, Jonsered/Redmax dealer. Call ahead to find out if the dealer has any .325 pitch chain in .058 gauge because, in my region, you'll only find .050 gauge and .063 gauge.

+1

I've also bought chains from Frwaley's eBay store without issue. Here's the full chisel chain I'd buy for that saw with the stated specifications:

I've run Oregon LPX chain on my Husqvarna 346XP, and it cuts and sharpens just fine.
