Ok guys, this is my first, so bear with me please.
I have a enviro ef2 very early model, serial # WH3209. It did not have an igniter in it when I received it and don't know whether it came with one. It does have the igniter temp sensor. It only has one tube for fresh air that goes to the fire box. Would the igniter go thru this tube also or what am i dealing with. Thanks for any help.
 
Ef2i is the model no. with the igniter. Igniter has a separate tube and hole into the burn pot.
 
That is what I thought also, but the stove I have has only one hole, but does have the temp sensor installed for the igniter. The way the tag was punched out on the ID plate, it is unclear as to whether it is a EF2 or EF2i.
 
fe2 is free standing fe2i is an insert
They have not made an insert fe2 in a lot of years
 
My EF-2 FS did not have an igniter. I used to light it by throwing a handful of pellets into the burn pot liner and hitting them with a blow torch.
If you use a push button start torch head it is quick and easy.

As you are standing in front of the stove, looking thru the (open) door, there would be a second (smaller) hole into the burn pot, on the left side of center, with a corresponding hole (1/4" - 1/2" dia.?) in the burn pot liner.
 
Has anyone modified an old EF2 with an auto ignitor? Mine is from 3/91 and is my main heat source. Love it for the cold northern Wyoming winters, but would love the convenience of an auto ignitor. There is a covered hole in the exhaust housing for the temperature sensor, and I can modify the burn box for an ignitor, just wondering if its been done before.

Sounds like a good summer project if you're so motivated.

My EF2i has an auto igniter that has since burned out. Even when it worked, it could take a long time to start. Now I manually start it quickly with hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol, or propane torch as nailed_nailer stated above. Those replacement igniters are expensive.
 
what if I used a higher wattage auto ignitor? The normal EF2 is 300w, but I see some up to 600w.
