I have been saving deer hearts and livers from this fall's hunting trips, I like to cut them into strips for jerky and dehydrate them into dog treats for my retriever rather than letting the coyotes get them. I do the same with any ducks, pheasants, and geese that get too shot up. I got to wondering if I could lay down some aluminum foil or a cookie sheet on top of the stove as a drip tray, and set a cookie cooling rack of some sort on top and let my stove do the work. Anyone have any input good or bad?

Of course you can cook on top. What you might notice at low burn rates is that there is a hot spot above the cat and the rest of the top is a little cooler. The bk is probably one of the best stoves for dehydration type cooking since it runs low and slow all day. Elevate your food appropriately.

The swing out trivet racks on the Alderlea are excellent for dehydrating. They allow a lot of options for drying temperature.
