I start my Harman manually with lighter and some igniting gel. When does the stove know to feed more pellets? Does it reach a certain temperature inside the box? Or is it when the pellets hit the back of the auger? Or possibly a time thing?

Exhaust sensing probe detects fire temperature. Trick is to get a strong fire when starting. On my PC45 I'd use a couple hand full of pellets and a torch. Usually in 30 seconds I could close door with exhaust fan already running. Then I'd wait another minute or less to toss a bit more pellets on fire to get large flame so probe sees temperature increase. Stove usually takes over from there.

It died off to fast, I let it cool down and just scrapped the burn pot and going to try again in a few minutes. I think I need a torch thanks

Is the ignitor not working?.....or do you not want to use it?

Moved into the house about 3 months ago and knew nothing about pellet stoves. I tried it once but did not know exactly how it worked. Old service invoices say they replaced the igniter two years ago. I have been doing manual since, I did get it up and running

From what I gather the P43 is a P38 but with automatic light/start . Both are controlled by a sensor mounted in the exhaust .
I torch the pellets for at least 45 seconds to insure a good lasting light/flame. In a minute or two I`ll throw on a handful of pellets to speed things up.

Did you read the sticker at the top of this forum regarding Harman stoves?

You might try cleaning the ignitor. With the stove off and cool, loosen the two wing nuts on the fron of the burnpot.Vacuum that out well. Turn stove switch to auto.....then turn dial to room temp to start the process

Sorry responding to this so late. I tried it today’s and it just keeps feeding the pellets pretty quickly so I shut it down but I notice the burn pot was hot so I guess it was working. I prolly just assume your supposed to see the flame or some smoke right away. Does it just keep feeding pellet the whole time or eventually stop to get it lit?
