Ladies and gentlemen this what I found on the bottom of the fire box when I was taking ash out of the stove. It’s paper thin. Seems to be stainless steel. Any idea what it possible be? There were two of them.

Interesting! No idea, but maybe look at the owners manual for your insert and check the parts diagram for a part that looks like that? For some reason I have this feeling it's not a stove part, but maybe something used during assembly that got left in there?!?!

I don’t recognize that part and have installed several of these stoves. I’ve never torn one down though. Is the cat intact? Not crumbling or otherwise failing? You’ve ran this stove for a while right? So if it had been there in the past you’d notice it. It must have fell from above somewhere.

Good point. I thought that maybe since they were so thin that they might have been on the bottom of the firebox (between some ridges in the bottom?) all along and just got snagged in the recent cleaning - I'll be curious to see what prezes13 has to say.

Stupid question, but are you sure they werent just embedded in the wood? I have found a weird piece of metal and some nails that the tree must have grew around in my firebox and i never noticed them in the splits

I have this stove for about 5-6 years so it’s not something was left in it. I went through the manual and I don’t see anything like it in the parts diagram. This is a cape cod insert so no cat. Once a year a take the baffle plate, yoke and bypass assembly apart to clean the flue and I never seen anything like it so maybe it was something in the wood? I do t thing my 7 year old would throw something in. I will have to ask her just in case.

Ok mystery solved. For a fun of it try to tell me what is. I will buy the winner a 24 pack of polish best beer.

Can you give us a hint? Maybe something about the square hole?

We have the size- about the size of a playing card and very thin metal ...

You are very close. Everything I said in my second post is true. You can ask questions...

Travis came out with so many different insert options a few years back it’s hard to keep them straight. I was thinking the cape cod was the hybrid version, just like the freestanding stove. Silly me...

Actually I was really hoping that you would figure it out.

Electronic item?

Not really electronic and not a part of pallet

They are both identical there is a square hole in them. It’s a foreign object.
