Leave it open. Like I said this is where the stove gets air that goes thru pot. There should be a gasket around the opening for the ash drawer. I would not worry about too much air going thru it. If you want to, you can go from high altitude, to normal. That slows down fan. And explain more on how the conv. fan runs on high all the time?
When I put the Fuel type on Sunflower, the fan blows high all the time. This is why Im not sure if I have software issues as well, or this is a control board issue. In this scenario and the one of low flame height, something is either inconsistently conveying the information or something is receiving it incorrectly. Im thinking of replacing the snap disc because it was popped out and machine didnt shut down. Clearly that is an issue.

I did turn the flame heigh to +4 and the output to ML or M with better results. The room has been around 68-70 since then. It is 71 now and 35 degrees outside. Is it ok to run this thing 24 hours a day?

It is possible that there are board issues, but not sure. And I can't remember if the exhaust fan is suppose to run at higher speeds on sunflower setting or not. Yes it is fine to run 24/7. Just remember to empty ashpan. Did you check and is there a rope gasket around opening for ashpan? It fits in the grove around it. kap

Kap, you are awesome on this stove- you and my friend Erik are the only two people I know that really knows the AE well. Didn't mean to steal this thread, but got a free Castile from work 3 weeks ago, cleaned it and replaced exh blower, its a 2009 model, what a wonderful little stove. I haven't burned much wood downstairs since I've had it! Hope you folks in the Midwest survive this wild winter, here in Ct coast hasn't been real bad. Smit, don't give up, this guy will get your AE going. Once its fixed, they are a marvelous heater, but I'm privy still to the E2 model... Keep warm.

I do what I can, but sometimes it isn't enough. Hard to work on a stove over the internet. Had a real cold spell with 50 mph winds and -49 windchills. Otherwise, not too bad a winter. Just got another load of corn yesterday, and spent half the day unloading, cleaning, and storing for use. Always feels good to have that load of gold ready for heat. Glad you like the stove. They are the same stove as the Santa Fe, just a different dress. lol Stay warm. kap

I actually got my stove from Killingworth. I live not far from the CT border in MA. Where you located?

There is a rope gasket around the ash pan. It fell off but I put it back on a few weeks ago. I have been running the stove on low +4 Softwood the last 3 days. It was cranking on Saturday. The room was almost uncomfortable, and it was heating my upstairs. I was thrilled. Today, it is struggling to again. Saturday, I used maybe a bag in 24hrs. The last 24hrs here, I used 2 bags - same settings. Something it clearly off here. I ordered a new snapdisc today for the droptube. Should I replace the thermalcouple as well? I wonder if that is sending odd signals. What I think is odd is how efficient it ran one day, then poor on another. Should I take that plate off the partition in the ashpan area? The one that cuts off the fresh air feed? Would that help at all?

I did use some Douglas Fir and I think I liked that the best so far. I do think my pellets suck.

There is a big difference in heat, between some brands of pellets. That is strange that one day it is pumping heat out, on one bag, and next time two bags don't heat. You can try taking the plate off, and see if there is any change. Don't take much to take it off. If the conv. fan is blowing strong, there is no reason for a new dp tc. When this stove was installed, how did they run the exhaust? All the way up, and a seal near bottom, or part way up, with a seal at the bottom? And there is no fresh air kit, so the stove is getting its air from in the house.

No fresh air kit. The liner is ran to the top and sealed from what I understand. The chimney is long, maybe 25 ft. The convection blower seems to run fine. It sometimes sounds like it is getting mixed signals. For instance, flame increases, fan increases, then abruptly decreases, then increases again. Like if you shut if off and on again, but not in a fashion commensurate to the flame. I checked the snap disc again and it was popped out. Right now, it is again strugging to heat the room. I turned the flame height to +5 and it didnt do anything.

Looks like a twist-in light bulb socket or a switch

That is the dial for changing the control board for Euro settings. Nothing to play with. kap

Going from +4 to +5 isn't going to change much.
