Hi,

My wife and I are remodeling a house that is in disrepair. It has a free standing fireplace that we are looking to replace.

Unfortunately, my wife has fallen in love with the Ortal stand alone 75x65

https://www.ortalheat.com/fireplace-collections/stand-alone/stand-alone-75x65-curve/

Its beautiful but very expensive. I've tried to find alternatives. We would like to be able to heat the room with the fireplace and would want something reasonably efficient. Do you guys know of any alternatives.

If not does anybody have any experience with Ortal? Not a lot of reviews in the database

Thanks
K

Looks like I might be able to convince her to consider three sided fireplace. Any recommendations? I see napoleon makes one. I'd ideally like good heat output. I think any brand would be a cost savings.

Thanks

This is a sealed combustion, direct vent gas fireplace with a maximum BTU input of 29,000 BTUs. So it will be a reasonably efficient and effective spot heater. Looks like it will tend to take up a lot of space, so I suppose this will be in a fairly large room. Do you do a lot of entertaining?

Most gas fireplaces become generic heaters after the novelty wears off, so it's mainly visitors who are going to be impressed with your fireplace I would suppose.

It's like a pro basketball player said ---- "When I got my first pro contract, I went out and bought a big Mercedes to show off in the neighborhood. But after a while it became just another Chevrolet."

I'm a single guy, so I can't be of much help with wife management!

Good luck!

Thanks. I'm easily confused so. Is there a link or a model number I missed?

We have a mendota in our current house and we use it all the time. Both for the fire and the heat so I know this will get a lot of use. If we weren't going to use it for the heat it would be a lot easier

edit- Looking back I think your talking about the ortal. The problem with the ortal is that it uses this double pained safety glass system which basically pulls all the heat away and dumps it out the chimney.

<<Max BTU/hr 29,100
Efficiency 77.80%>>

With that level of efficiency it should be supplying about all the heat you can get out of a direct vented gas fireplace. But I have no direct experience with this stove.
