Yeah I have 3 saws from Randy and have another one I'm considering sending out. Only problem is it's a mint 346xp and it's a manual carb..... It's been in a box waiting a decision for years.

Last time I sent him a saw he was $300 but that was several years ago.

I’m new to his work, but it sounds like they hold up really well for the long run if cared for. Every says it will kill the engine life but that’s not what I’m hearing from long time operators.

Just out of curiosity.. I've had my 441 for probably 8 or 9 years and to my knowledge I have never tuned the carb or made any adjustments to it .

Always runs great but should I be doing this more often?

I stated earlier in this thread that when my 261 gave up the ghost I would replace it with an Mtronic saw. Well the rings finally went down in the 261 so my newest saw is the 362c in the center of this picture. I will probably put a new piston in the 261, maybe port it, I dunno.

To Allagash350, some say it should be tuned every time you use the saw, some even say as conditions change ie, first thing in AM, then coffee break/lunch then mid afternoon. Temperature/air density/elevation change, probably the case for most pro's, but for us firewood cutters, probably less frequent. I had last used my 441 over the summer, must have been hot out and went to use it again about a month ago, about 20-25 degrees out, and for me-it was scary lean. Low speed needed a slight tweak, high side needed much more than the low did. Cutting some white oak and hickory, I don't think the piston would have made it. YMMV, also my Husky 550XP is autotune and while it re-calibrates and goes through its electronic calisthenics, its interesting in its run consistency. Once tuned, she's great.
