Anyone ever try to use a weed whip line as a replacement line on a sooteater? I need to replace my line, the sooteater line is cheap but shipping is twice what the line costs. Just wondering if anyone has ever tried it?

I have yet to get the Soot Eater, but I do recall a thread somewhere here that somebody did use weed wacker line....just be sure to get the right diameter.

If it is the same size why wouldn't it work? It's all I am going to use when mine goes.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I’d share what I do. I matched up the sooteater line with weedwacker line from ace hardware, it’s identical but it keeps its circular shape and won’t straighten out. It doesn’t matter on a weedwacker because it spins so fast that it straightens out. I found that if I get the length I want with the new line then dunk it in boiling water for a few seconds it straightens right out.

Great tip!

You can get straight peices of trimmer line about 18" long at tractor supply. That is typically what we use. We also use stuff off of a spool yes it is not straight but it spins fast enough it straightens out fine.

yup, just match it up at the store and buy the same stuff, it's just trimmer line.
