i forget the material my hearth is made out of, but i'm pretty sure it's a colored concrete surface because some light scrubbing with a wire brush 2 years ago left grey streaks that don't like to go away.

anyway, i have a mix of ash/soot and sap on the hearth. the sap is the real b*tch. what's the best way to get rid of this?

Why do you want to clean it? Looks like a normal wood stove hearth to me.
Except, it is probably not big enough. How far out from the stove does the hearth go?

It might be 18 but it might be 20? Why don't you put a tape measure on it, and tell me what it is.

lol

Not sure how it would work on your material as we have Brick. My Wife used Vinegar and Water with a light scrub brush, then wiped with a damp sponge.

why don't you answer the original question?

Ha! just what I was thinking.
Mine looks to be the same material, concrete material. Light sand color. I use bucket with dish soapy water and a rag to scrub it. It gets out the black marks. Mine was never sealed. My surface feels like it will absorb what ever you use. Like spilling oil on concrete garage floor. Test what ever you use.

If the bottom and the sides are the same color I doubt it’s a coating, you can’t scratch the color off. You can scratch off the cream, or the finish, and leave ugly gouges. I have the same manufactured pavers. They’re great but you’re cleaning concrete. Maybe look for those concrete garage floor cleaning products.
