That sounds pretty similar to what I had, my nostrils were burning and I had lots of clear liquid just pouring out which eventually turned to colored mucus but I took a lot of a product by Natrol vitamins called something like "Quercetin Immune Support Complex" or similar to that, the Quercetin is supposed to calm down sinus swelling and the Vitamin C helps too and I also took Goldenseal and oil of wild oregano and mushrooms for respiratory health and I rebounded pretty quickly, but it still is there a bit, these viruses/allergies are getting stronger every year!

I hope it calms down for you soon, it is a rough one this thing!

Antibiotics have a tendency to really screw up my digestive system which is why I avoid them unless absolutely necessary. I tired the natural route before but haven’t had any success. I find the best remedy is lots of sleep at night and some light exercise during the day. You’d be surprised how much your sinuses drain after a light bike ride or even just a brisk walk.

There hasn’t been a cold I can’t sleep off in 12-16 straight hours in bed, if my schedule will allow it, when it first hits. Trouble is, the schedule doesn’t always allow it. If I can’t get that time to sleep it off on day 1, then it’s going to be a tough couple of days to follow.

Check out the story behind Epicor, it is really fascinating. My wife swears by the stuff, as a daily preventative. Also, check some of the new studies on vitamin D, which appear to link winter colds much more to a lack of vitamin D (from sunlight), than ever previously suspected. It’s almost starting to look like “a vitamin D a day keeps the doctor away”.

All things in balance though, these things can help, sometimes massively, but there is no single miracle pill.

Holy cow... 16 ours is a lot of sleep in one day. Typically I sleep 7-9 hours on average, but maybe 10 - 12 hours max if I'm trying to recover.

I'm not an expert on vitamins and stuff. I know for a while vitamin c was touted as being the go-to supplement for colds. Then it was zinc etc. Vitamin D is a new one. Lord knows come winter for us Northerners sun exposure is definitely lacking. Specially when the clocks get set back in autumn.

I normally sleep 5 - 6 hours per night. In the post above, I’m specifically talking about when you get hit with a cold, it’s best to just call it a day and hit they hay, when you can.

That's what I did the Sunday after I half killed myself and got sicker, slept as much as I could during the day and it really does help! Sleep might be the most important thing that helps when you are sick....
