Sorry just need to vent....it's been the worst spring around here (NH). I've fired the boiler several times this month, and tonight we're predicted to get "mixed precipitation". Nice. Last week I burned up the last few sticks from '18/'19, so yesterday I threw a couple armloads in the basement for the next few nights. Summer is short enough around here, sucks that we've lost basically 3 weeks of spring. Luckily my '19/'20 wood is dry and ready to go.

Granite, you can become a "halfwayer". That's usually in the North' South Carolina area. Not all the way down there so you could still burn some wood. Just saying. It has been a sucky spring here in the mid-atlantic as well. No end to the rain, another inch today and a couple inches yesterday. When will it stop. Just a continuation of last year now it seems.

I was in the same place two months ago. I was two years ahead on wood and now have to catch up this summer and optimize drying. That early start and late finish to the heating season has been brutal. I will probably fire my stove off tonight.

I fell your pain. We're 'supposed' to get 1-4 inches of snow tonight. That would make it 209 days and counting with some snow on the ground and I'm way into next years stash already. Going to be a busy, and short, summer.

The Never Ending Spring . . . cool and wet. I'm eager to get out on the ATV trails, but we've kept our trails closed since they are a soggy, pudding-like mess still.

Yep, I need to get more wood stacked for the in-Iaws but I don't like trying to haul wood out when it's this soggy...tears up the forest floor too much on these inclines.

It was snowing pretty good here around supper time yesterday. Eesh.

I even broke down & made a fire on - could have got by without it OK, but was in the mood for some flames & wood heat. Really liking these mini-splits in weather like this, making a big difference in how much wood I'm going to need to get ready for next winter. Still lots left in my stacks. And don't have to make fires if not in said mood.

Today is the first day in a while that I am not tempted to start a fire...it's May 17

I dont have a this years stash or next years stash.. i just have wood to burn and how ever how much i go through, well it is what it is..i have a rough average that i use and always 3 years or more ahead.. so what ever i burn that was this years wood...

I dont see how you can estimate that close where you have wood for seasons, I just keep my wood area as full as I can and just burn what I need, then refill in the summer.

I have kept track over the years. I have never burned 4 cords in a year. That being said i also have never burned under 3 cords. Roughly my average is 3.5 cords per year. This year iv burned a little more thatn last year. In 2017 I was at roughly 3.5 this fall/ winter 18 i burned just over 3.75 cords. Right now im sitting on approximately 13 cord CSS and about 4 cord in log lenth.. so at the max i can burn im a little ove my 3 years ahead .
Im verry consistent with my wood. It has always been oak and cherry, and we like the house at a reasonable temperature. My home is always between 68 and 70 degrees, no large temperature changes. My daily routine rarely changes, so i go to bed and wake up pretty much the same time which makes my burning habits consistent. I use to log what i burned.. i dont any more because theres no reason to.. its always roughly the same and im sitting on more that i need in 3 years.

Heating degree day information is readily available for most areas. If someone is heating with the same stove and using a similar blend of wood, then the wood usage will track the degree days quite closely. Heating oil and propane suppliers use a similar system to predict auto delivery clients.

It snowed here today. I’ve had 3 small fires too. Yesterday was 37 so it just rained.
