Hi all,

So I just installed my Enviro boston 1700 insert and I have two cracked firebricks. They are cracked all the way through when I shift or jiggle them. Should I leave them or replace them?

thanks!

I'd probably leave them. If they are very loose you could remove each brick and fragment and exchange it with a bottom brick.

Given the location and that it’s just the very wee corner, I would leave them. You want to change out the bricks that might actually fall into the fire!

Ok, I will leave them and monitor. I have not used this stove yet. Might do a test burn this week to ensure everything is working ok. Rather know now than wait until fall. This way I have the summer to fix/review anything.
Sweat the family out for an evening! :)

Thanks!

Previous owner was a dealer that retired and said it has little use on it. Was a non functional display and then used for 2 seasons of limited use. Date of manufacture is February 2015. Granted, he could have told me anything....but he did follow up and message me a month after I got it and asked if I had installed it yet and how it was going.

So are the ones he has pictured. I find the pumice ones crack less than standards.

I didnt load his picture. People dont realize what its like to ride in the back of a semi truck. Not a smooth ride for bricks sitting on steel.

Yeah it is not that uncommon to get cracked bricks in new stoves

For $6 I'd get 2 new ones...

There is absolutely no reason to replace them

Yes. If they are just cracked in half, they wont make any difference. There is a crack between every other brick in the stove and It fills with ash. Does not matter at all.

Ok, Im on my laptop so I guess I could have scrolled up to see them. I cant believe a thread was made about THAT! I think in some stove manuals they tell you to replace them when they are worn in half or a third of original dimension.

When something is broke, i fix it or replace it....straight from the PE Operating manual...

My new T5 came with an extra beixk. So either they were being generous or they figure there's a real chance one won't make it through delivery in good shape. (I lucked out and now have an extra for future use.)
