Hi all,

Thanks for everyone's assistance with my install so far. I folded to the kids wanting to see it in action so I did a burn tonight. First thing the wife commented was the "smell" turns out the sell touched it up with some Krylon High heat (pic below). I assume that is the paint burning in and will go away in another burn or two (hope so otherwise I will hear about it forever!)
Was simple to light and get going. Used some paper bags from the grocery store and some wooden shims to get started and it took off from there. I did not pack the firebox. Below are a bunch of pics.
I used my IR thermometer and in the gap between the inner and outer "boxes" I was getting 510-540 with the occasional 700?
I left the air open to max the whole time - was not looking for a long burn as it is 75 degrees out and supposed to be 85 tomorrow (we have the AC on). Learned when you crack the door and let more air in, she roars to life!
In one of the pics I tried to get a shot of the collar in the gap - wanted to make sure it was not "red".

We have the same insert and love it. We burn 24/7 here in upstate ny. It uses way less wood than our old stove. Just make sure its dry, it doesn't do very well with wet wood.

Krylon high heat is rated for 600 continuous. I certainly wouldn't put it on a wood stove where it can see 700+ for extended periods.

If you don't want to do that particular science experiment in your wife-containing house with the windows closed this winter, just sand off the Krylon now, repaint the whole thing with Stove Brite, and burn a few fires with the windows open to cure the new paint.

That is an option - sanding and repainting, but I am hoping that since the paint was on the outer surfaces that don't see the 700 degrees I will be ok.
The boston is a box within a box and when I put the IR thermometer on any of the painted surfaces, the max I saw around 400 degrees.

I've never checked the temp on mine. But when you shut the air down for a long burn it gets crazy hot in the firebox. The metal bits surrounding the glass get real hot.

Wives are known to mention the smells. It should burn off.

Don't run the stove with the air open all the time. It's a waste of heat and may stress out the liner by taking it to a too high continuous temperature. Closing down the air will reduce flue temp while increasing the insert temp and heat output.
