I have owned a few pellet stoves in my day and was always able to see the auger at the bottom of the pellet hopper. Regarding my new (used) Harmon P68 pellet stove....I cannot see the auger. The auger is covered with a plate. I thought this was for fire safety (when the stove is off the plate would close off and isolate the hopper and when the stove was running the plate would slide out of the way and expose the auger, BUT NOOOOOOOOO, while the stove is running the auger slides back and forth a little bit. Can anyone explain mechanically how the pellets make it to the auger by way of the sliding plate. Also. Any hints on removing the cooked on exhaust fan paddle wheel. Thanks in advance

Plate opens and drops pellets into feeder assembly where the auger is and the auger scoops them up. Every revolution of the auger, it will open once and close once. As for the fan blade, don’t take it off unless you have to replace it or the motor cause you’ll likely break it. Soak it in some penetrating oils really well and pray you don’t round out the hex head.

Empty the hopper and leave just a handful of pellets in there. Put the stove in test mode and watch the plate. It will push the pellets and you will hear them drop down. From there they are pushed to the fire box by the auger. When you open up the fines box at the back of the stove to clean it out, you’ll be able to see the slide plate and auger.
