Yesterday evening I pulled the kid away from the tablet and we sealed the old thimble to the chimney my father put up.
At that time it was a 900sq ft house and he was burning over 1000 gal of oil a year to heat it in 80 and 81. He put up a masonry chimney, threw a Shenandoah coal stove in and heated with that. When i took over the house i lined the old 8x12 flue with insulated 5.5" and threw the NC 30 in the basement. That heated the house a few years until I got NG in the house. Then the 30 got relegated to backup heat.

It was new roof time. I decided to have the old chimney pulled down. I've been wanting to move the 30 to an internal chimney for a while now. Now I need to have an old 8x8 liner knocked out so I can drop an insulated 6" class A liner down the old oil flue. The 30 will breathe again!

Lots of work to do before winter!

Get on a sweeps schedule now if you still can before heating season starts. Many including us are already scheduled a month or more out
