Hello everyone, I just registered after reading here for the past couple weeks. This is a very helpful site.

Anyways, I just bought a P23 Breckwell and will be installing 4" DuraVent through the wall. The wall that it will exit through is vinyl sided on the outside and I was wondering about staining or damage to the exterior. The cap is just pretty much a straight piece of pipe with a screen over the end. How far out should I extend it past the wall? Will it stain or damage the siding? If so, what can be done to prevent this that won't look bad? Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks, thebubbleboy

Many people recommend that you put a Tee on the end and go verticle 5' or above the roof line. That will pretty much eliminate getting smoke in the house if the power goes out. I intend to do that this summer, but last winter I burned a ton of pellets with a horizontal vent that sticks out 30" past my cedar siding. I had no sooting or staining at all. I haven't tried to shorten it any to see at what point it would start to soot the wall and I don't know if the soot would wash off of vinyl siding or not.

I am planning on going from the stove top, up about 4 feet, 90 elbow, and then through the wall, terminating with a section of straight pipe that would extend about 1 foot past the siding. I really don't want the pipe to stick out any more than a foot or so. How do you think that this would do? Thanks, Bubble
