Doesn't look good for Friday-Sat in the Northeast.....everybody have their back-up power ready? I hope it's not bad as it looks....I feel really bad for the people that still don't have power. :grrr:

here's what the weather channel.com says:

This storm will race into the Northeast on into Friday bringing snow, sleet, and ice. Heavy snow from Buffalo to Albany to Boston to southern Vermont and southern New Hampshire will be in the offering 6 inches or more.
Northeast Ohio to central to northern Pennsylvania into northern New Jersey to New York it will be a quick burst of snow and then a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain with significant ice accumulations in the interior sections.
Travel will be extremely dangerous overnight Thursday into Friday for the Northeast. Be ready for significant travel impacts and winter weather.
For the Weekend the storm in the Northwest will exit out into the Northern Plains and combine with moisture surging from the Gulf of Mexico to bring yet another winter snow and ice event from the Midwest back into the very same areas in the Northeast that got hit on Friday. This time the ice zone will be from Washington, DC to Baltimore to New York City and New Jersey with heavy snow to the north again from Buffalo to Boston.
 
all set brand new 5700 watt generator and transfer switch wired in,50 gallons of gas plenty of food , two tons of eagles in the shed,bring on the weather.

Sounds like your all set....BTW, have you run the stove on the generator to make sure everything works as planned?
 
I borrowed a genarator when the power went out, hooked to my stove and it fried the controller,so now im using an inverter and two marine deep cycle batteries, just use the genarator for my tricle charger to charge the marine batteries,cant under stand why the last gen fried the board it was only 1000W GEN,but atleast this time i am prepared this past storm was a nightmare.

BTW, I'm not sure Zeta's little jeep can handle Logan.....but you never know. I'm sure she'd like the $$ for doing it, though. :gulp:

I am in central NH and we where out for 3 days,next road over was out untill yesterday aftenoon.There are PS trucks from Ohio to Quebec(they have guys to translate with them).There are still some,44,000 with nop power still! Snow is something I am ready for but the those falling branches and trees are a different game all together.
Put the snowblower on the Kubota this morning, at least 1/4 cord of wood in the lower garage and 4 more cords in the wood stack.Also have 4 tons (well 3 and 3/4 left) of NEWP (never again-good pellets but the wait is not worth it) pellets and the XXV has been doing its job.
 
Hello from just south of buffalo, I await this storm with open arms (not). We already have over 66" this season already!!!. Well it is what it is....
Maybe the lake effect will not be an issue this time. I have a 60 miles commute each way to work and friday maybe a snow day!!!
 
Well the generator is ready, the snowblower is too. I've got a holiday party at work tomorrow so I rolled the dice and I'm smoking a few racks of baby backs in the Big Green Egg out on the deck (we're all bringing a "signature dish" in to share). I'll go in, enjoy the party and bail after lunch - should be back home holed up with the pellet stove burning and the snow falling outside...warm, toasty and well fed :)

despite the economy. Average residential driveway I charge $25 not $50.

Dayyum I feel for the folks who still don't have power back from
last weeks storm and now are going to get hit with snow. That sux bad.

I ran my Countryside, my computer, televisions and everything else on mine and had not a lick of problems in the past. The power coming off some gen sets can be quite rough, especially the cheaper unregulated motor sort. During the 98 ice storm the POS Coleman I had hiccupped and fried a bunch of stuff. If you are getting one to run for more than just one simple item or a few minutes you really need something with an engine that will self regulate to meet the load. Honda's and Generac's are way lighter, use less gas and start on the first or second pull. Those puppies idle right down when the draw is light and don't jump all over the place because they are so smooth. Damned Coleman ran like a Trabi and weighed a ton.
 
I had no power for 5.5 days. I was borrowing a generator and was able to run the pellet stove off of that. Needless to say I have about 10 gallons of gas waiting for both the snowblower and the generator (which I have not given back yet). At least all the weak branches should already be gone

Sounds like some people just don't want to invest in a decent surge surpressor........they'd rather replace control boards, etc.
 
Still many, many homes in the Londonderry, Derry, and Windham area without power, and estimates of when power will be restored are constantly updated to a later date. We are fortunate to live on a trunk line, so power back on in three days. My generator then went to my cousin's house, for use by her and her two neighbors and has been running almost full time since then. The state and town literally plowed the downed trees, poles and downed lines into the ditch to make road travel possible, then rebuilt the utility system. It is now snowing hard, so more interesting times ahead.
 
Right in the middle of getting 12-14" here about 35mi West of Boston.

And folks down Zeta's way are going to get more than that, I think.

Then Sunday night too?...yowsah.

Zeta will be loving this with all the plowing she'll be doing....and now more on the way Sunday night?? She will REALLY be saying "cha-ching"... :lol:

We're getting pretty well blasted down here in York county. Just got in from the first wave of shoveling. Looks like we've gotten a solid 8-12 inches so far...at least it is the light and fluffy stuff. Still coming down pretty good out there. Lots more coming on Sunday. Barring a quick temp spike to 65 it looks like we've got our white christmas in the bag.
 
Was out until around 1 am. By then we had well over 12"
and still snowing now. Going out soon for phase #2 of this
snow event. Macman I used to make a killing on storms
like this when I had 40 driveways to plow. Since my Mom
has been in the late stages of alzheimers (past few years),
I've cut way back on how many regulars I commit to so
the cha ching factor isn't anywhere near what it used to be.
Going into the 20th year doing this and proud to say
my rates are the most reasonable in town and I can plow circles
around the newbies out there.

Time to make some coffee. We're getting slammed down here for sure!
Should have some snow pics later today.

Not to really get on your case, but any decent surge supressor should have handled that little generator no problem. At worst, they burn out themselves, protecting whatever is connected. I hope you really are sure that it's a good one, as the next time something happens, your stove may not be under warranty anymore.

Can you tell us what make & model surge protector it is?
