This is an easy unit to run for a beginner.
Blower is mounted on the back of the unit and can only be changed or cleaned by pulling the whole stove out to reach it. You need a blower to move the heat around and they get dirty pretty quickly and then break. New blowers run about 140.00 plus instillation costs.
Unit is not big enough to keep area heated on days below 30 degrees. Fire box gets filled up with unburned coals which limit the size of each load you put in to keep temps. up.
If you are looking for supplemental heat in a small space this unit will do just fine.
Dealer wasn't knowledgeable about the product. In fact he thought that the blower was a side mount. Being my first insert I didn't know any better and assumed he knew what he was talking about.
Dealer also sold me a unit that was too small for the area we were heating. Again I figured he knew what he was doing..
When the blower began to malfunction within the first year I was told that they never break and that what I was hearing was normal. Nobody was sent out until I kept on them and then the person they sent had no idea about wood burning inserts. He did gas inserts. He never even checked the blower..
After two years it finally gave out altogether and I had to get a service tech from another dealer to come and take care of changing it out.
Ie. Their service after sales was non existent and they didn't even have the part in stock. At the time I purchased the insert they said parts, if needed were no problem...When I did need a blower they informed me that it would take 3 weeks to get one in from Napoleon. Other service tech. had it the day he came to our house.
