As advertised, really is a fine unit. Well built and adds a lot to value
Must clean glass alot to remove cresote residue when used each day. Slow burn unit will do this.
Installed by myself - used Chimney Depot - easy to do in one day. Triied to install without chimney liner - bad plan. Draft would not work correctly and cresote built up very quickly plus could not get enough draft.
BUT when installed as required, unit worked very well, Must get a hot fire going before closing door - about 30 minutes or longer. When coals are hot and wood is being consumed, close door with max draft and wood
will burn for several hours without adding any more. Add a few more pieces every few hours and produces ample heat to also heat up our upstairs quite abit (another 400 sq ft). No matter how well wood is burning you will
get a cresote residue on glass, not real bad but should be cleaned after cooling down. Use a fiberglass brush (toothbrush style) - works GREAT and saves a lot of sore fingers and grime on hands. We are really happy with the
insert so far. Really beautiful piece plus the 8491 unit sticks out about 4 inches which provides more heat to room. Fans are typical - loud when on high but any medium speed is ample and not very annoying but it really throws th neat.
