Bought in 1998 , Price Paid: $650 used
Location : Cape Cod Area, MA , USA
Purchased from: Select Store Type - Ash Away Hearth & Chimney
Purchased "used", almost never fired. Disassemble to remove from previous owner's cellar. Re-assembled with "never-sieze" on all fasteners. As a result, simple to maintain. Operation is straight forward (from the manual) and stove burns hot and clean. Am able to maintain constant exhaust temps @ 700-900 with little fidgeting of controls. Burns little wood (primary source of heat November-thru-March), requires only annual chimney cleaning. Retains much heat after warm-up. Able to burn all night (8 hours), but perhaps too hot in house---would like to find smaller version of stove at reasonable price.
Difficult to keep exterior clear, glass door almost always covered with black film (would be cleaner if stove burned at higher output, but stove too large for house). Difficult to light with high outside ambient temperatures (early fall & late spring).
Don't understand why others have so much difficulty with this stove---perhaps it's their installations (mine is only 15 feet straight-up & 8 inch pipe all the way to flue cap. Works as advertised: ash pan very convenient, controls are simple, burns for long periods with no smoke from stack (catalyst works properly) and no leaks in the house.
