Comments: UPDATE OF # 137
Well her we are, almost at the end of our 4th burning season, and a cold one at that. Our P-61 has been in constant use from October Through May, 24-7 for the last 4 years. Not a single problem to date other than the first day of use ( see #137). This is the best investment we have ever made. This stove keeps our home warm on the coldest days, at a fraction of the cost of using our natural gas forced hot water heating system alone. We use the thermostatic setting on the stove, set at 68' and a feed rate of 2lbs. We use soft wood pellets at a cost of $3.49 to $3.99 per 40 lb bag. The stove consumes about 20lbs. a day, for a fuel cost of $2.00 per day. We keep our gas heating system set at 68', but the P-61 does 90% of the heating, because the P-61's thermostat has a "tighter" tolarance that our gas heating system. This has reduced our winter heating cost buy 59%. Just a note to other "Forced Hot Water" users, as tempting as it is to let your pellet stove do 100% of the heating, you run the risk of having your heating pipes freeze, since they are embedded in the exterior walls of your home; some wise advice that was passed on to me by the building inspector, when he inspected our stove.
