Likes: Quiet fans, long burn times, produces good heat

Dislikes: NO manufacturer support. Glass smokes up quickly, catalyst must be cleaned often, every two months, or it will not work properly. After one year paint on outside of stove appears to be rusting in small patches!

Comments: Purchased this unit in fall of 2010, thought it was the best unit to put into a zero clearance fireplace. I did TONS of research, and really thought this was the best option. The twin 125 CFM fans really put this unit above others that are compliant with zero clearance fireplaces. This unit really does heat quite well, and keeps our 2600 sq ft house comfortable with outside temps in the low 30's. When it is in the mid 20's the main floor that the insert is on is warm, but upstairs stays about 66. around 10 to mid teens our furnace kicks on in the morning a few times until we can reload the unit.

My biggest gripe is with American Energy Systems who manufactures this unit. I tried to call them with questions about the catalyst unit. I also wanted to ask them why my glass gets sooty after a VERY short amount of time when the stove has an airwash system that is supposed to keep the glass reasonably clean. I asked to speak with a technician, and got the run around. The secretary told me that a tech was not in and suggested I contact my dealer. I expalined to her that I really wanted to talk to a tech. She first tried to tell me that they are hard to get a hold of, and ultimately stated they did not have any techs I could speak with. She kept trying to refer me to the dealer, or email with up to a 5 day response time. I really wanted to speak with someone, and did not want to exchange a bunch of emotionless emails. I finally got frustrated and gave up, they simply will not let a consumer speak with a tech, and refer everything to the dealer. Speaking with the dealer is ok, but after all that dealer is a sales person, not a wood stove manufacturer. I am completely conviced that although this wood stove has a warranty, trying to make a claim on that warranty is a waste of time. When I ask the dealer about the sooty glass, rust on the unit after one year, and problems with the catalyst I really feel like I am dealing with a used car salesman, and getting a bunch of smoke blown up my tailpipe! In the amazing brilliance of hindsight I would have most likley purchased a different unit had I known how POOR the factory support is from AES. The next time I think about purchasing a big ticket item I will try to contact the manufacturer before I buy to see how well the factory support is!
