Burn time and thermostatic control are excellent. Far surpassing ALL OTHER stoves. Stuff the firebox completely full of rounds and splits top to bottom. Then puzzle piece in more splits in. The thermostat will control the burn. The 30 hour burn time is a true number! Most stoves are run at full heat only 10% of the time. If not, it might not be sized correctly for the house. This is where the Ashford excels as it can be turned down to a low heat not attainable by any other stove that I know of. It has a giant steel converter that will give a water clear chimney exhaust for almost all of the burn cycle. After start-up the thermostat controls the stove with no further operator intervention. This stove is more like a furnace than a wood stove. Unless you get the fan kit, it uses no electricity.
Don't expect to see continually dancing flames for the whole burn cycle. The window will get somewhat dirty but self-clean at the reload.
If you burn only occasionally, for visual effect, this might not be the stove to buy. I have been heating my house since '71 with wood and had a lot of stoves. The thermostatically controlled burn with the 500 pounds of iron give conststant steady convective and radiant heat. This stove heats my adjacent kitchen better than my old all-radiant heat stove. The Ashford is a wood burning technological marvel. Factory experts ( I did have to make a few calls) are readily available for any issues. Blaze King and A-1 Stoves gave me great support for an issue--after the sale.
Could not be happier, would buy again and recommend this stove.
