Attractive stove; produces very little ash (with good pellets); glass very easy to clean.
The stove is unreliable when controlled by a thermostat. The stove resets the 'thermostat' setting during the night (how does it know it's night?), so it won't start up. I have to unplug the stove. If I turn on the 'thermostat' setting, the stove won't start unless I start it manually. After ~1/2 hour operation, the stove shuts down with an error code meaning 'two successive consecutive startup attempts have failed', but it was burning fine when it shut down. Also, the ignitor lasts only a year or two--I'm on my third one.
The stove is out of warranty. I e-mailed Travis Industries customer service, asking about the symptoms. The only reply I received was a canned response saying, in effect, 'pay the dealer to come out and fix it.'
I gave Travis Industries a 3 because I have an Avalon wood stove that works fine; otherwise, the rating would be lower. I gave the unit a 2 because of low ash production and easily cleaned window; otherwise it would be a 1.
