Looks like Honey Locust. You can tell by the orange color in the broken limb, and the bark looks like it too. Good firewood.

My guess would be be silver maple because of the bark and the white wood, but it usually it isn't stringy.
The clip on 4 way wedge is about worthless, because like woodsplitter said they only work on a curtain size of wood, and if it's stringy, forget it.

Bring it inside, and put a fan on it to dry it, and split it as small as possible will definitely help.
