Moved. Went from the Harman to a Breckwell Big E. What do I need to know?

Any way to reduce noise of the Big E? The exhaust fan is super noisy. I'll try oiling, but holy hell it's constant.

Did you weld on metal, or just make a separate guard? Any pics?

Moved. Went from the Harman to a Breckwell Big E. What do I need to know?

Bought a new house with a Big E. Coming from my old house with a Harman insert, which is a Cadillac and more automated - what do I need to know about the Big E? Any gotchas or tips? I think the first thing is a thermostat, but what else?

Harman Accentra electrical buzz, no action

Plugged in, but off. I'll try it next time with it unplugged.

Harman Accentra electrical buzz, no action

Follow up question - is vacuuming somehow tripping something? I did a quick vacuum this morning (vacuumed the ash pan and the open space on the sides) and the same thing happened. The blower won't engage. Every single time it's when I do a quick vacuum (not a full clean). In testing, the...

Harman Accentra electrical buzz, no action

Seems the combustion blower is dying. I removed the blower, hooked it up to power and it attempted to spin but wouldn't turn until i gave it a little push. After that it started right up every time, but it looks like a new part is in my future.

Harman Accentra electrical buzz, no action

Alright, so I ended up calling the pellet techs and they took out the combustion blower and put it back in and the stove started right up... It's been running fine since (3 weeks or so). However, today I vacuumed out the ash and the same thing occurred. The stove is making an electrical buzzing...

Harman Accentra electrical buzz, no action

Combustion blower blades spin free, no blockage. I'm wondering if something fried.

Harman Accentra electrical buzz, no action

I cleaned my stove, put everything back together and started it back up. It ran fine for about 45-60 minutes until it shut down. Checking out why it stopped, I pulled it out and saw the green and yellow ground was not connected. I reconnected it and tried to start it back up, but no go. I can...

Pellet comparison tool (amount, $, etc.)

I created this tool 3-4 years ago to help me determine ROI (return on investment) for pellet purchases and compare two different pellet brands, so I could determine which pellet was the most cost effective in meeting my heating needs. http://jsfiddle.net/jasonday/zNxRQ/embedded/result/ Have fun.

Anyone know if the Powersmith Ash Vac has a thermal cutoff switch?

Yeah, it's dead. I was filling an air mattress using the blower, shut it off, and it won't turn on again. I've verified that power is going to the motor, so it's not the switch. I was hoping that it had a thermal switch that I could bypass.

I've taken it apart and I don't see any obvious thermal cutoff.

Ash vac died - thinking a shop vac will do

My powersmith ash vac died and after taking it apart with no obvious issue, I need to get something else. I only vacuum cold ash, so I'm thinking a shop vac is probably a better buy - more power/suction, more uses. Any suggestions?

Door gasket sealant - do I need to let it fully cure?

Just replaced my door gasket and I'm wondering if I need to let the gasket sealant (silicone based) to fully cure before turning the stove back on. The sealant only says that it will be cured within 24 hours, but gives no indication of whether the stove can be running or not.

    Am i the only one?

As someone that works on websites, you have to do regular maintenance and updates on the things that make up the site for security reasons, browser adoption, etc. In this case, this site runs on a forum script that likely needed to be updated. Any time you do a major update/upgrade, there are...

I tend to purchase from stove shops and a few guys that specializes in selling pellets.

And This is Why I use BBS Pellets

I got the same email from Aubuchon's. Certainly won't be buying from them with these choices. I find when I talk to different hardware stores, they know very little about burning wood pellets.

How likely are you to try a new brand of softwood pellet?

LaCrete's are my "go to" pellet. Nothing has beat them. That said, I do try a lot of different softwoods and it will be interesting to see if these Pinetree's are any good.

1 ton per full ash pan.?

That's one reason I try to only burn really high quality clean pellets (softwoods) because the amount of ash is less. Additionally, I figure less ash equals less maintenance and longer life of parts (because ash can plug things up and is corrosive).

    Pellet Prices in New England?

I don't think that's necessarily true when you factor in all of the variables. On oil, I kept the house at 68 degrees. With pellets, my house is much warmer 71-74 throughout different parts of the house. I think I would need to compare a month with oil set at the same temp, and then I bet the...

An Interesting Take On Climate Change

It will take a govt perspective change and a shift from being a political indicator (are we really still arguing that man can have an impact on the environment?). There's money to be made with renewable and alternative fuels (something Dems & Reps can get behind), but as long as climate change...
