    Indoor boiler located in shed?

I’d bet a third of the wood boilers out there are in a auxiliary or non living space for reasons you have mentioned. Sometimes existing basements just won’t accommodate a boiler setup. My boiler barn is 16x 24, holds a large garn and 4 cord. If I were starting over the size would be large...

    Old, old member, new build

Today’s gasification boilers have automated combustion Controlls, adjusting the primary and secondary air to maintain a residual o2 in the fluestream. This allows a more efficient burn across wood types without much manual tweaking, it’s more of a controlled burn. Also some boiler controllers...

    Old, old member, new build

My quick thought would be, keep your storage, circs, valves ect, and get a newer boiler. There are a few used ones with newer technology in the for sale thread. Taking your old system won’t be as hard as you think to disassemble.

    Boiler advice

Not sure what this poster is talking about, residential or commercial or where ambala is located? Most of us here are are quite familiar with our setups and through the help of this forum able to diagnose and repair our systems.

    Boiler advice

Wood is definitely a lifestyle, and if your comfortable with that, your half way there. If Gary is doing the install, you’ll gain pertinent knowledge specific to your system that should give the needed reassurance.

    Boiler advice

I think it would really help if this guy could see a gasification boiler with storage supplying a outdoor reset temp through a properly sized 3 way valve to a residential distribution system.

    Boiler advice

There’s a lot of fake news above regarding biomass heating and the requirement for a 2 inch supply port for a residence. The poor 2 inch mix valve at the low flow rates would have no authority whatsoever.

    Boiler advice

What are this persons qualifications, the question about stainless is more of a concern for a smoke dragon without storage for the firebox area. The system is pressurized, closed so corrosion shouldn’t be a problem. What size is the supply bung? I’m sure Gary will provide third party...

Non-Pressurized Storage; HX Coil vs Dip Tubes

The non pressurized concept will work, If there no potential air leakage such as a can vent. It’s the same concept of the finger on the top of the straw, leave it on and the water stays, take it off and the water runs out.

    Injection mixing from storage question

Storage is a asset for mixing control regardless of valve or circ. My take on this comes from a data trend chart aspect not recognized comfort. The circ way is less moving parts/ hardware, easier to plumb, I can’t overlook losing the first 20 percent control to the mechanics of a cap start...

    Injection mixing from storage question

I can tell you that I service a deceased friends garn that his wife runs now, he happened to be a hydronic engineer. The garn is 200 ft away from the house and main distribution system, he uses a taco outdoor reset circ with his design day at 120degf, he’s got all radiant home run loops, so...

    Injection mixing from storage question

What this tells me is that hydronically it will work however, no control logic has been specified, or tested. I’d suspect time and temp like staging another boiler in theory would work , however it would take a lot of tuning to be seamless. I wouldn’t bite until siggy shows working...

    Injection mixing from storage question

Very interesting concept with the single variable speed and the two fixed speed circs, just wondering what speed controller could manage 3 circs?

    Injection mixing from storage question

No doubt siggy proposes a interesting concept, I’d like to as you see it in action. I know there are plenty of folks using a circ for injection loop mixing, I’ve wanted and tried multiple times with limited success. The wet rotor cap circs require approx 2v to rotate under load, with a 0-10 v...

    Injection mixing from storage question

My house has mixed emitters, and rooms with different heat requirements. I mix a master odr temp that will cover the poorest emitter on a design day right at the back of the garn with a modulating 3 way valve, to the closely spaced t’s in the injection loop in my basement. Several zones will use...

    Another poor wood drying year?

Well last year was terrible for wood drying in New England, so far this year doesn’t look promising either! I’m about ready to put a dehumidifier in my boiler barn/ wood shed.

Propane vs Electric vs Wood heat? Who Wins?

Wood is a lifestyle, some embrace, some say it’s too much work. I’ll burn until I am physically unable, regardless of the economics. I enjoy the time in the boiler barn, it’s relaxing! The wood processing is my gym. The whole process has exposed me challenges that would have been overlooked if I...

Back from a long hiatus from hearth !! Need recommendations on oil wood combo ?!

You might investigate a switzer boiler, I believe the business name is switzer custom wood burning, Gary is in Dundee ny. This is a gasification wood boiler, storage incorporated with a oil gun as well. Several members here have one, as well as build, Gary installs also.

HS Tarm MB55 Solo for pool heater?

What is the output of the current heater and the capacity of the pool, above ground or I ground, covered or not when not in use. Answers to these can help to see if it’s viable, and at what cost. I was heating a 22k gal in ground gunite, uncovered pool with the garn, it would take 2 fires a...

    Wanted: Garn style builders

There was a poster who went by garnification probably 15 years ago, he created quite a stir by fabricating a garn style boiler with what I believe was a 3000 gal milk tank. You can possibly google it, there were several pics of his build, the thread might still be here. Tom, did you get up and...

Insulating stacked 500 gal propane tanks

I’m sure what I did was excessive, however at the time I was regularly charging storage to 185+, baseboards and poor house insulation, I’m slowly converting to radiant and dual element baseboards, adding house insulation and outdoor reset, thus not needing to fire storage as high, reducing the...

Insulating stacked 500 gal propane tanks

I threw the kitchen sink at it when I moved the garn from one house to the other. I first covered with 3 inch batt insulation, then spray foamed over that with a 600 board ft kit, worked out to about 3 inches. The batts create a small air pocket and isolated the foam from the garn metal, the...
