    Powers Out

Dealing with power outrages sucks. Ironically...when i lived in highly populated CT I had outrages all the time. Now that I live in rural NY with property, my power almost never goes out. I think the difference is that they really do a good job trimming the trees from the power lines there...

RE: Ouch . . . just received my quarterly report for my 457 retirement account

If you aren't up over the last 2 years, you're invested in all the wrong stuff. I have one 401k that I put 40k into 6 years ago...left it alone...and its now 128k. I'm 40 yrs old..so it's all 1's and 0's till I retire. I love my work...so i'm not sure I'll ever really want to stop working...

    Powder beetles

I have them in my outside wood shed, but not in my stacks that are open to the air and rain. Apparently, they prefer the shaded, cool wood in the shed.

    The Un-Possible

GE is really should have stuck to manufacturing and engineering,,,not finance. Now they are doing everything they can to not have a $6 stock. :p I happily sold mine many moons ago at $32.

Anyone here ever owned a coffee shop?

I completely shifted my career at 40. No looking back. Happier than ever!

Anyone here ever owned a coffee shop?

In a pinch....they are my choice as well.

Anyone here ever owned a coffee shop?

That is great real world advice. On switching careers..... I moved from running big manufacturing organizations (hundreds of millions every year, hundreds of employees) to a single, stand alone outside sales engineer position. I took a major pay cut to build a sales territory and haven't ever...

So, you basically have no good coffee then.

    Taxing and tariffs

The collusion between the big bankers and the federal reserve is run by very very few powerful people at the total detriment of the value of our dollar and the long term saving of every American.

    Veneer in vaulted wall

You might want to check and make sure your foundation is solid. Is there a basement or is this right on a slab? You are talking about thousands of pounds. Worth checking into. It looks like that is an outside wall...so you're likely right on the sill plate right there. Thats a good thing...

    Taxing and tariffs

You either get a regulated market controlled by a very powerful elite few or a market controlled by very many (consumers).

    Cutting shower tile question

Buy your own wet tile saw. A small one from Home Depot or Lowes will come with a blade and be perfect for a small project. <$100

    Installing shower tile question

Thanks guys. Yup...it is grey grout. We used the same color for tiles and for stones. It made the most sense to us. I love white, but it's just impossible to keep white. I'll accept defeat and start with grey. :) We took a TON of time and make sure everything was solid and square. This...

    Installing shower tile question

I'm fairly surprised anyone is suggesting use caulk. When you use materials that aren't perfectly straight (like natural look materials) you always end up with some larger gaps where you need to use more filling material. Some of this is even built up to make sure no water settles there. Some...

I need a new cordless drill driver

US exports more oil than imports

Likely because of its low cost, and infrastructure (burying lines) is expensive. It isn't on my street, but it is 1 mile away in a development.

US exports more oil than imports

Yup...fracking for NG freed up an amazing amount of energy. Now people can heat their homes with NG instead of oil and it decreases our oil consumption. Good stuff!! Self-reliance is never a bad thing.

Me too. It is called happy hour.

    Wives....

Same here. My wife knows I'm not an idiot and I make good decisions, so she supports my decisions. She loves the heat..but isn't crazy about the mess.

    Taxing and tariffs

...and they all kick back to those politicians. End the subsidies. Let farmers grow whatever makes sense in that new economy and move on. Totally agree on oil and all energy as well...including alternate energy. Clean the playing field.

    Taxing and tariffs

I hope you are not suggesting farmers operate on a free market system. Not that i'm disagreeing with your statement. It is true that tariffs are stocking the system in soybean farmers favor here in the US...at least they did. I'm 100% for zero tariffs and subsidies. There would be a ripple...

Big changes are happening in transportation

That's not really accurate to say. Electric has struggles, but completely different struggles than gas did. So people are going to sit around waiting for their cars to charge on big trips? That certainly isn't how I do trips now. All I want is for the EPA to get its head out of it's...

    Heat Above - From Below

You have NG. NG is awesome. Use it. How much do you use this room? If you are heating it occasionally in the winter...just know, you're going to run into condensation on the windows. If it was me, I'd put in a nice little gas fireplace or gas stove in that sunroom. It would really make...

    ATV + trailer

When Honda or Yamaha make a big bore ATV....I'll buy it. Even though I can't complain about the 700 I have. It's super powerful. I have had ATVs and dirt bikes my entire life. I have wrenched on all of them and they have all evolved, but in different ways. I'll bash Polaris and CanAm...
