    System upgrade...

Now, when I'm looking at hearth, an icon did pop up. I hadn't looked at my hearth.com tabs after "un-sleeping" my computer. When I finally looked at the tab, no notification number. Browser issue? Firefox..

Install it a bit higher in the pipe, leaving room below it in case you need a second one.

I'm not getting the red number icon on my notification bell, indicating new notifications, even though someone has replied to a thread I posted on, or quoted me.

Thoughts on the new(ish) hybrid cat designs?

The advantage of a hybrid would be that you could run secondary-burn to get a cooler flame show and faster heat, if you don't burn 24/7. You can also run flame in the box on a straight cat but you won't have flames in the top of the box, shooting off the secondary. I've never seen a PH in action...

Thoughts on the new(ish) hybrid cat designs?

Woodstock would probably be the way to go in a hybrid. Their steel stoves have welded seams, of course, but they ain't real purty. The Progress Hybrid is a soapstone doll, but you may eventually (at 15-20 years) have to rebuild the stove to re-cement the seams, or at least patch them like I did...

Yep, that draft might get a bit strengthy when it's cold out. You may need a pipe damper..or two.

Newbie whose getting ready to install his own wood stove insert

An insert will be much more efficient at putting heat into the room, and with a big window you will still be able to enjoy a nice view of the fire.

I'm with you there, bro. ==c We are in a run of unseasonably warm weather and low humidity. Every time I pass the wood we just stacked for my SIL, I can smell it drying. The longer this weather holds out, the drier that wood is gonna get. It's Ash, but I'm still not holding out a lot of hope for...

A wheelbarrow is a bit "tippy" too, but at least with only one wheel, you can pick your way through and around some of the limbs and holes better. You can't load it real full, though...

Tonyyyyy...DONE-gy! Ash stashed! >> Looks like somewhere around 2.5 cords...enough to run her stove for a season. [If her new stove doesn't eat too much more wood...] It'll be interesting to see how long it takes to dry...wood was pretty wet, even though the tree barely had any leaves...

Is the stove I want too big for my living room??

Spoken like a true stove nerd. ;) I'll re-measure the Fv box soon...the stove is less than a quarter-mile away. ==c

Did you also tape the edge of the gasket, with a little of the tape width overlapping the back face of the cat as suggested? That will act as a "shoe horn" to ease installation. I had to do that on the Buck 91.

I think so..it's a kinda cool little stove. Maybe the crack could be repaired without taking it apart?

    Dutchwest 2460 right side crack

Problem with this cheap stove is that the castings are rather thin. If they are warped too badly, reassembly could be hard or impossible.

    Dutchwest 2460 right side crack

Use the forum search for "rebuild dutchwest." Couple good threads there. I don't think it's too complicated, but take pictures and think how you are going to put it back together as you take it apart. When you get cement in all the seams, you might need a ratchet strap or rope to hold all the...
