Pellet Stoves with low height exhaust placement

Can’t help much, however I have a same age Quadrafire 1000, had it rebuilt about 15 yrs ago,, and this year replaced control box and did a few adjustments, and it is burning better than ever....wouldn’t even think of replacing it,,, and my wife is very happy with it, and it’s heat output and how...

    Fact checking the sellers

I’ve got a Quadrafire, well over 20 yrs old,,, had it rebuilt once.... Recently had a few problems with older parts, however, once I solved those problems it has worked just fine,,,,,I can’t imagine what more I would need.

Thanks for the congrats. I am really pleased, and certainly appreciate all the helpful advice I got on this forum....Made it possible to do what I did.....

    Alright, I give in..

HOORAY...............got the control board back from the Electronics expert, and it works,,, works perfectly,,He had to replace some ‘chips’’ and reprogram some things,,, and it works as good as new.... In fact, it works better than the used control box I got from Billy,,,It gets the ignitor...

    Alright, I give in..

Right,, someone else noted that too,,,that even Quadrafire doesn’t know the programming on some of the chips... My guy is pretty sharp,, been doing this stuff for 30 years and always learning something new....so we’ll see what he comes up with...

    Alright, I give in..

Went back to my electronics guy today,,, He checked two of the chips,, one of them is still made and available..the other one is discontinued, He is going to do some research and testing and maybe, just maybe, he can come up with a solution...He is willing to try anyway,,,,

    Alright, I give in..

I have mine solder repaired,, and it solved the problem of the ignitor turning on,, unfortunately the ignitor wouldn’t turn off, and as SSyko suggested, one or more of the chips have been damaged,,,,, so I don’t know if chips can be replaced....?? Or if there is a solution... SSyko,,, do you...

    Should Have Ordered More Pellets

Ran out of Meader Brothers pellets, so went to nearby feed mill,,,, only 7 miles... and got 15 bags of ProPellets,, they were limiting because it is end of season....Loaded indoors by two young ladies,,, I didn’t have to do a thing,,, only unload when I got home...This cuts my work load in...

    Alright, I give in..

Well, my Quadrafire is working fine, starts and stops when it should,, so all my recent problems seem to be gone,,been using ProPellets and they are burning great....very little ash,,, good heat. Now when I shut my stove down in a month or so, I may try to take the upper heat shield off and...

So what are my options with that control board??................any??
  14. K

    Alright, I give in..

The guy who repaired is an Electronics dealer, has been for over 30 years. He would have an oscilloscope, I would imagine,,, How would he get the file from pantrol,,,,,So you are suggesting I let him have another try before I trash it??
  15. K

    Alright, I give in..

Very true,, I wasn’t complaining,,, he did more that I asked,,, and probably no way to test for all the possibilities.. I did thank him, offered to pay more,,,, so I guess I will just leave it at that.
  16. K

    Alright, I give in..

‘ Okay, so you think I should just let it be, and not go back to him?? SSyko mentioned something about needing an oscilloscope to test it.... Like I said I’m a plumber not an elect4rican..
  17. K

    Alright, I give in..

I feel bad about the guy fixing it,,, and it still didn’t work,,,he said he did a relay trace and it was okay, Talked with friends this morning and we agreed I should tell him, not as a complaint, but just for information.

Alright, did everything as planned,,,,,stove started ignitor started however was slow....burn pot filled up with pellets too fast,,,,,ignitor stayed on,,, stove kept burning.......Unplugged stove, let everything cool down....Pulled repaired control box, and put in a used control box I got from...

This is the setup where the control box goes...It’s my old one in the picture before I took it out,,,,Pressure switch on top of control box....connector box to right,

    Alright, I give in..

Now here is my plan of action: 1. No power to stove 2. Run continuity check on new OEM ignitor. 3. Test ignitor with 110v direct to make sure it works.....(Boy, did the guy at the hardware store get excited when I told him I was making a 110V test cord.) 4. Install slip in connectors on wires...

    Alright, I give in..

Thank you Wilson1,,,,I got the control board back today,, looks fine,,,I’ll post a picture in a bit. I should be able to figure out which wire is the hot one if it is the one that matches the repair...... Need to spend some time on it tomorrow.

    Alright, I give in..

This is probably a dumb question, but , hey, I’m a plumber, not an electrician....I am supposed to get my repaired control board back tomorrow.. What would happen if I put a 3A fast blow fuse in BOTH the wires that go to the ignitor?
  24. K

    Alright, I give in..

Unbelievable....We actually have a Radio Shack dealer, of sorts, in our village...The lady there, showed me a choice of 3A fast blow fuses and holders,,,,better than I could find online....so now I’m set with that......a nice inline fuse holder.. And then to top if off she thinks the owner...
  25. K

    Alright, I give in..

Yup, I got it, just figured out hat a fast blow fuse is a different size than a reg 3A, so back to the store for another holder.

Finally going to get back to my Quadrafire,,,lost a lot of time last week dealing with cellular problems,,,some times AT& T makes me crazy, but they are the only carrier we can get. Anyway,, the new igniter came with those stand plastic covered slip in connectors,,,, can I just put the matching...

    Alright, I give in..

Thanks, both SSyko and Wilson, you both help a lot. I appreciate it,,,Today I had to deal with computers issues, tomorrow is a work day,,, so Friday I can get back to the stove..... I’ve been starting it with a squirt of lighter fluid, and it runs fine,,, Gone back to ProPellets,,, surprised...
  28. K

    Alright, I give in..

I’ll take a look at it tomorrow,,,,not sure about my soldering ability, Does it make a difference which of the two wires I put the inline fuse in?
  29. K

    Alright, I give in..

Well, If I check them both tomorrow with a 110v test circuit, I should find out, shouldn’t I?
  30. K

    Alright, I give in..

I think I am going to check that ignitor tomorrow,,,OUTSIDE, the stove, by just connecting it directly to a fused,,,, 110 volt.. circuit and see if the problem repeats.?/
